I see Embrace have been covering this track on their current tour and it's listed as an Emerson, Lake & Palmer cover, but it's not, it's a Greg Lake solo song.

The song may be by Greg Lake, it was released on an ELP album.

We usually take the first album release… especially if the song was released before by only one of the member of the band as a single.

I assume you won't agree with that.

Fair enough – but apparently it was recorded in 1974, released as a single by Greg Lake in 1975 and a SECOND recording was not released on an ELP album until 1977, so….that suggests that definitively this is a Greg Lake solo song, that was later recorded by ELP.

electricshock is correct. Contrary to Setlist.fm's stats page, the song “I Believe in Father Christmas” was originally released by 'Greg Lake' as a SOLO artist in 1975 (It reached #2 in the UK Singles Charts). Emerson, Lake & Palmer's version on 'Works Volume 2' was released two years later.

I am completely astounded by the statement:
“We usually take the first album releaseā€¦ especially if the song was released before by only one of the member of the band as a single.” If that is the policy, the stats on Setlist fm are worthless because they are untrustworthy.

I think we need a moderator to look into this.
