    • Album tracks classified as "Other"

    • May 20, 2011 2:55:45 PM UTC

The Cars have a new album out, but the new songs in the setlist are marked as “other”. Is there a way for us to correct this, or is this something the mods need to do?

FYI, here‘s a link to the album at musicbrainz: http://musicbrainz.org/release/cfba7994–7e6a-435e-91ea-c5dd37a24e7c

The album feature is quite new, it‘ll take some time (i.e. wekks) until all artists have up-to-date values attached.

I got the same problem with My Morning Jacket 2011 Tour – there are a few songs from the 2008 songs marked as “other” and the rest mainly are from the 2011 CD that probably would be updated later on.

Got the same problem with the new Incubus album

    http://www.setlist.fm/stats/albums/incubus-1bd68944.html

    Classified as other:
    The Original
    Surface To Air
    Friends and Lovers
    Thieves

should all be listed under If Not Now, When? :)

This problem also exists with the new Laura Marling Album.

The following tracks , classified as other, should now be listed under A Creature I Don‘t Know

    The Muse
    I Was Just A Card
    Don‘t Ask Me Why
    Salinas
    The Beast
    Night After Night
    My Friends
    Rest In The Bed
    Sophia
    All My Rage

Many of these songs have been played in concert since mid-2010, but with the release of the album in 2011, this should now be rectified.

    Thanks.

Also with Laura Marling, I note the following track also classified as ‘Other‘

    Darkness Descends

This is in fact from the album I Speak Because I Can.

Please can this also be rectified.

    Thanks.

on the thread of non-new albums:
AFI “Miseria Cantare – The Beginning“ and “The Leaving Song Pt. II“: really on Sing the Sorrow
“Midnight Sun“: Black Sails on the Sunset, really.
(Also, “On the Arrow“ is on the iTunes edition of Decemberunderground, if that counts)
Innerpartysystem “This Town Your Grave: Innerpartysystem.
Modest Mouse “Teeth Like God‘s Shoeshine“‘ “Styrofoam Boots / It‘s All Nice on Ice, Alright“ (and simply “Styrofoam Boots“): The Lonesome Crwoded West
Modest Mouse “A Life of Arctic Sounds“: Building Nothing Out of Something
Thrice “T&C“: Identity Crisis (it should at least appear as album track)
“Backdraft“: The Alchemy Index, Vols. I & II
(also, all 5 “other“ songs from 8/13 show are from their upcoming album, Major/Minor)
VAST “Lost“ should be mentioned on Nude, since that was the studio album. However, “Falling from the Sky“ should actually be credited to Turquoise and/or Turquoise & Crimson.
“Blue“ is from Music for People.
“Dedicate (A Place for Me),“ “Sunday I‘ll Be Gone“ and “Frog” are from April.

Same with the song “At 1 AM“
    by “The Subways“.
This song was the hidden track on the album “Young for Eternity” (2005)

It seems to me that a lot of songs of albums which were released this year (even if it was months ago) get classified as “Other”.

Some bands I noticed this with:

    • Blindside
    • City And Colour
    • Thrice
    • Trivium

Would be great if this could be fixed – or edited by users themselves.

On another note: I also don‘t understand why you don‘t apply automatic capitalization to song titles – that would spare a lot of trouble.

It seems to me that a lot of songs of albums which were released this year (even if it was months ago) get classified as “Other“.

This is due to a major change in the musicbrainz system, we‘ve been working on it now for quite a while and it should be ready soon. Sorry for that.

On another note: I also don‘t understand why you don‘t apply automatic capitalization to song titles – that would spare a lot of trouble.

Actually autocorrection is part of the editing process, this includes capitalisation as well as covers. E.g. if someone adds the song “Nothing else matters“ and there‘s already an existing song named “Nothing Else Matters“ then the former will be changed to the latter. Please also note that there are capitalisation guidelines as in titles not every word gets capitalised, e.g. “the“, “a“, “for”.

But of course we always try to improve this system, so please tell us where did you come across problems with capitalisation?

    cheers

    Thx for your replies!

Yes, I know that autocorrection is part of the editing process and if there is only one version of a song with correct capitalization it works just fine.

But I came across a lot of cases where there existed different capitalizations of the same song and therefore the song was listed multiple times in the statistics. Like “This Is A Nice Song“, “This is a nice Song“, “This is a Nice Song“,...

And if there are 100+ setlists with that song it‘s kind of impossible to correct it everywhere.

E.g. if you take a look at the statistics of My Chemical Romance you see songs like “Welcome To The Black Parade” (and others) which aren‘t capitalized correctly in 200+ setlists.

What I would suggest is that the capitalization rules are applied automatically (if song names are in English) and a function to change the spelling of a song in multiple setlists would help greatly to improve current capitalizations.

Definitely a weakness of the autocorrect feature.

Nice idea! We‘ll discuss this one.

a function to change the spelling of a song in multiple setlists would help greatly to improve current capitalizations

That function exists, but currently only for Moderators and Admins, as it‘s a very powerful function. Such batch edits shouldn‘t be necessary often (as one batch edit possibly fixes the autocorrection issue above), so it‘s safe to tell us which songs of which band are affected.

hope that helps and thanks again for your suggestions & gruss in den osten

If you need another moderator, then I would be glad to help. I would love to clean up the statistics of some artists.

    Dear Moderators & Administrators,

I would like to ask you to edit the song facts (“From the release“ field) for all the songs from Amaral‘s new album “Hacia Lo Salvaje”:

Thank you very much in advance.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
