To start, I love A Perfect Circle. Was looking forward to the DC show at Constitution Hall on 7/17 for a long time.

Love both Mer De Noms and Thirteenth Step. Have listened to them thousands of times over the years. Conversely, I hate almost all of Emotive, because of the terrible covers. From what I understand, Emotive was a contract filler and, whether that’s true or not, it certainly sounds like it. All of the covers on that album are painful at best and, at worst, are a straight up insult to the original artists and versions. The world would be a better place without the covers of Imagine, When the Levee Breaks, and What’s Going On. They sound like versions that an apathetic, distracted APC would put in a half-assed effort to record. Or, to be generous, maybe they were experiments gone awry. That’s fine. I like experiments. But, I also like editing. If something sucks, don’t put it out. And, more importantly, don’t charge me to be reminded of the suck years later.

I got over Emotive a long time ago and was pumped to see APC again, never even considering that they would play any of those abominations. So Imagine the shock and awe when every other song on the DC set list was from Emotive. It was terrible and we left 5 or 6 songs in. All of the originals sounded anywhere from very good to great; however, every time they played a cover, which was every other song, the energy of the show bottomed out, people headed to the lobby, and some, like us, got fed up and left. I’d rather stay home, listen to Mer De Noms, Thirteenth Step, or anything by Tool or Puscifer.

The opening band was good. Red Bacteria Vacuum. Save your money and go see them in a club, or wait for Puscifer to tour. APC is over.

This show ain’t worth the money, or, more importantly, the pain of seeing a great band tank.

Favorite moments: Opening band Red Bacteria Vacuum; Sense of liberation after leaving 5 songs into APC.
