I am trying to delete the reference to 'Because The Night' being a Patti Smith cover but it keeps reverting back.
I've tried!!!
At least you're there TB87, I'm just keeping up at home! 'River' & 'Ghost' back to back - you lucky so and so's!
Enjoy the rest.
I'm not there either. Relying on a friend texting me the setlist. Unbelievable!
Awaiting confirmation but it appears that sound was cut by the organisers due to Bruce going past the curfew.
To cut the sound on legends like Bruce and Sir Paul is obviously disgraceful. This means there's no Tenth Avenue Freeze Out (Clarence tribute) for first time on the tour.
set not cut short you got the tour average 29 songs and the normal set list end of Twist & Shout which if anyone watches the youtube video is not cut short. Going to guess no Clarence Tribute as you got McCartney instead. In fact if you think of it as a festival set then you got between 3 & 4 songs more
SVZ has already said on Twitter they were going to do at least one more. I'm sure it was an amazing gig; just a shame it had to end like that.
Various reports (CNN, BBC, Spiegel (Germany) and most of all backstreets.com) say that the song (Twist and Shout) was played in full, and only then the power was cut off after McCartney left the stage. It is also reported that it was the decision of the people in charge of the festival to do so, not the council.
I was there. No gap for encore. Bruce played straight through because he was running out of time.
The Youtube video is very misleading for Twist & Shout. The set was definitely cut short. The sound was faded out on the PA for the gig, but if you were close enough the onstage monitors were still active, thus on the video you can still hear them. It's the difference between being there and relying on Youtube for the reports.
I was also there, and the sound definitely faded out. I was pretty far back, and I remember saying to my friend 'a fade out is a bit strange for ending a live song...' before realising what was going on.
Marked 'Because the Night' as Patti Smith cover. This is how it's normally listed on this site when Bruce plays it.
I was there and the sound going off was a real shock. I feel it was a little disingenuous of Steve Van Zandt to blame the police though. Perhaps if the band had come on stage at 7 as advertised and not 25 minutes late.... well you can see where I'm going with this.
