Comments
From my seat Critical Mass sounded canned; plus they "did it" with all the stage lights off.
Are you kidding me? Why would you want to crap up the set list with all that. They clearly play songs written by one of the players, does every track need to be notated. I do not feel this enhances the content at all. Do you feel Stills is missing from Guinevere?
it's to keep all of the setlists equal, plus the songs are "officially" CSN songs, Crosby & Nash have their own albums of their own material, while certain songs were recorded on CSN albums, rather than CN, so they should be kept as being CSN.
I only put covers to the CSN songs that don't appear on any C&N albums.
Hey man, no disrespect intended but I dont; thing these are really good or logical reasons. I certainly appreciate all the time you have spent adding this detail but I really think it hurts on several levels. Even reading your comments a few times I still do not get why some songs are marked and others aren't . I mean shouldn't I used to Be a Kind be a Graham Nash cover because it is from his solo record? Shouldn't Deja Vu be a CSNY Cover?
No it's a Crosby song and IUTBAK is a Nash song and anytime the songwriter is playing the song they wrote it is not a cover.
What do you to with "Rockin in the Free World"? When CSNY close the show with this is it s Neil Young cover? Even though Neil is up there leading the charge? Does that mean it is only NOT a cover when Neil plays it solo because it originally came ut on a solo record? What if he plays it with Crazy Horse or his Friends and Relatives band? Are these versions covers under your rule?
Other then these inconsistencies I think this policy makes the data set much less useful and cluttered with poor data. For example, relating to cover versions, what if you wanted to do a search to see what artists had covered a favorite song. Lets say Rockin in the Free World; a song widely covered by many great artists. Under your rules, at least as I feel I understand them, the search would return tons of hits with CSNY and other bands that Neil is in playing Neils song and the versions by Pearl Jam and Bon Jovi to just pull two out of the air would be lost in all those versions with Neil "covering" Neil.
Again, much respect for the work you have put in but I think your policy is
poorly conceived and should not be implemented for the benefit of the overall data set and I am going to refer this conversation to whom ever maintains and manages the rules for posting.
Thans for understanding and I hope my explanation above clearly expresses my reasoning.
I understand what you are saying. I was going to mark the solo songs by David Crosby and Graham Nash as solo, though I also wasn't fully sure if that was the right thing to do. I find CSN and related groups like these to be interesting as they are a group of singer-songwriters rather than a group that has either one songwriter or writes material together. For "Rockin' In The Free World", I do think I would leave Crazy Horse and CSNY versions as non-covers because they do feature Neil Young. Thanks.
