Heeeeehawwwww!!! This is my show!!!
Beer & Maiden Rule!!!! This concert will rock and I am going to rock and the rocking shall be loud and good....like this concert
July 18 is getting closer and closer! UP THE IRONS!
i don't really care that they left out run to the hills, but leaving out the trooper, now that pissed me off.
leaving out run to the hills and the trooper is forgivable on the basis that those songs are of course classics, but at the same time, played to death.
it was an amazing change to see them bring some throwbacks from brave new world and dance of death, newer cds but amazing in their own right as well.
just a great mixup of classics with the new songs....sexual
Awesome show! Sold out crowd of 16,000 people. Bruce said they'd have to find a bigger place to play next time. Great mix of newer and older material. I don't care what anybody says, there was just enough classics and what they played should have been enough to please anyone. It was an absolute pleasure to hear all the material from their last three albums. I just wished they'd played more than just El Dorado from the new one. Also, it looks like their recording all the Canadian shows for a possible DVD release, hence the reason they've settled on Dance of Death over Paschendale.
@bob
You guys (our neighbors to the north) DESERVE a DvD that is Canadian based. Canadians have been some of the most loyal Maiden fans through thick and thin. 80's, 90's and present. Canadians reputation to rockin hard to Maiden is world renown.
\m/
Amazing show! 16,000 people wow! Loved the newer stuff but I'm glad I got to see some classics for the encore and last few songs, like Hallowed be thy Name and # of the Beast and of course Fear of the Dark! The new robot Eddie is a awesome mix between a bug, alien and a monster! By the way they took paschendale out because Adrian and Nicko weren't getting the timing right!
Dream Theatre rocked. Iron Maiden was so so, but what's with the new songs? The ALL sound like 'your time will come" - "a brave new world"....listen to them! We left mid set. That was my 6th time seeing Maiden and i will never pay to see them again! For $100 a ticket, play some songs for the fans that GOT you to the stage!
Don't know how anyone could say Maiden was "so-so". IT was the second best Maiden show I've seen, and would have been the best IMO if it wasn't partially ruined by a few wankers in the pit starting trouble. Maiden usually talk about what the setlist is going to be like prior to a tour. Here's an idea: read what they have to say before you buy tickets. It's been common knowledge since before the tour was even announced that the next tour would rely almost exclusively on 21st century Maiden. You wanna hear the classics? Sorry, you missed your chance in '08 and '09. I personally think this tour is the best setlist they've ever done, and it's awesome that they're rotating Dance Of Death and Paschendale.
i was there last night....they still put up a good kick ass heavy metal show inspite of all the complaints about new songs being played...it was all good. at least this show was way way better than the Life and Death Tour at the ACC a few years back...i'm glad they played Wrathchild and Dance of Death over Brighter than a 1000 suns and Paschendale...i always buy "lawn tickets" at a great price and still have a good time with everyone else....me and the girl still had a great good time last night...plus a t-shirt & 2 posters, can't go wrong with that...this will be on dvd of some sort because i saw Steve Dunn, the guy who created flight 666 was there taking some footage...it's nice to see young kids going to a maiden show with their dads/moms...3 more years and my boy will be ok to go to a metal show...and maiden will still be around for another show...i hope....\m/...
Dream theater rocked and Maiden so so??? you should have just stayed home last night man....petrucci's good guitarist but their vocalist sucks...i can't stand his voice...i better not see you on the next maiden show or i'm gonna have Eddie bite your head off...obviously you're not a Maiden fan....maybe you're just pretending....how can you complain about their new songs?...they are not that bad compared to the old ones...Brave New World & Dance of Death were good albums, what u think?
@fb
Easy bro. Remember; there's Maiden fans, then there's fans of 3-4 Maiden ALBUMS from the 80's. Butt-ton of difference between the two.
Up the Irons!

@MrF33n3y
That's funny... I think I might have seen the few wankers in the pit you're talking about.
I am surprised no one has mentioned anything about the sound quality at this show. I have been to over 175 concerts in my lifetime and this was one of the worst sounding shows I have ever been to, even though I had pretty good seats at the back of the 200 section. Bruce's vocals kept dropping out throughout the entire night, the guitars were really tinny and their volumes were really erractic and there was absolutely no bottom end. Steve Harris might has well not even been up there. I certainly don't expect perfect sound from a concert, especially at the amphitheatre where you get winds blowing off the lake etc. but this show was really sub par. This is the only show I have been to where the opening act actually had better sound than the headliner. I have been a Maiden fan since day 1 and love both their new and old material, but I couldn't get excited about anything they played last night, due to the crappy sound. Sorry to be a downer on here, I'm not crapping on Iron Maiden personally, but I think this issue needs to be addressed whether it is by Maiden themselves, the soundguy or the venue.
this concert was fucking awesome! i just loved how they incoorperated the new material with the old material... UP THE IRONS! :D
@ bob and fb what is with the attitude that if we 40 somethings liked the last tour more, that we aren't true maiden fans...u guys are idiots trying to prove you're big tuff maiden fans because u like the set...we all like the set...but...on the last tour, just watch flight 666 ancient mariner...maybe bd's and im's top 5 live performance of all time...we're not saying that the newer stuff isn't great...just saying the last tour had a MUCH better set...and i dont have to hear numer of the beast or run to the hills ever again
I think this was a great concert! I know some of the older Maiden fans would think that i don't know what im talking about because of my age, but it was awe-inspiring for me. i normally only listen to older maiden songs, but the new stuff is good too. My only complaint is that whoever was working the sound board should have been hung. Other than that, it was an amazing show.
yeah, maiden were great....i thought they would be getting old at this point but nope, bruce was jumping around like a monkey the whole time.
i don't mind if they play some of their lesson known songs but at least do it from some of their older songs, like to tame a land or something from ssoass or rime of the ancient mariner or something. playing two songs from amolad and bnm was unecessary in my opinion (not a dig at those albums just alot better stuff they could've chosen).
as for dream theater, they were okay, the crowd weren't all that into but they weren't headlining and i doubt most of the crowd have heard of them so its forgivable. i laughed at mike portnoy's shitty drum stick catching skills and james labrie having to point out that panic attack was in rock band 2 before they started playing it just to get the crowd's attention.
I can confirm that Sam Dunn was in the crowd with a steady cam operator. Got to shake his hand as well. Great documentaries from that man.
The sound was indeed dreadful. I was so disappointed by that especially given the price and the location.
FREAKIN AWESOME!!!
First saw Maiden in 1984. I love when a band plays their new songs. WTF? People complaining they didn't play 'the Trooper' There were at least 30 classiic Maiden songs they didn't do, but if I wanted to see 'old' Maiden I'd watch Live After Death.
The show was fantastic. If you have an oppurtunity to see them...GO.
This is what seperates the true Maiden fans from the fly-by-nighters. People, you can't expect to see the Powerslave concert every time you go to see Maiden. They have had so many albums since Piece of Mind, Number of the Beast, and Powerslave, so you have to expect songs from those albums as well. Besides, you had the chance on the last tour to see Maiden play all the classic material. Furthermore, I'm not sure if you noticed that 5 out of the 16 songs (31%) were from the old classic albums. As such, while you may want to re-live the 80s and 90s at every show, I think they played enough from the old albums. Tours are also meant to promote newer material. If you don't like the newer Maiden stuff then maybe you should stay home. Maiden always puts on a great show. Up the Irons!
@MrF33n3y
Given the fact that it was a metal concert, the pit exclusively exists for headbangers, which is why alcohol is not permitted into the section. If you want to enjoy the show sitting down, I strongly suggest you buy the 200 level tickets the next time.
Oh wow, there's two bob's on here now. Cool. Anyways... jesse james, sorry I'm not quite a part of your over 40 age group, I'm only 38. I've been a Maiden fan since 1984. I was a fan during their heyday, I was a fan when they were experimenting in 86-88, I was a fan during their uninspired years from 90-93. I bought X-Factor the day it came out with enthusiasm, I found a copy of Virtual XI before it was even out. And I wet my pants when I found out not only Bruce, but Adrian was well were rejoining the band, and to boot Janick wasn't going anywhere. So I could be screaming for 80's hits, because that's what I was first exposed to, but I like seeing Maiden cover new ground and playing new material. I agree, Rime of the Ancient Mariner is the coolest live song ever, but I don't want it at the expense of their new stuff on a regular basis.
I have been a fan of Iron Maiden since the release of their first album. I have to say this was an amazing show even though they didn't play all of the "classics". I think the one thing you need to understand is the band can't continue to play those same songs from the 80's on every tour, It becomes monotonous and boring for them. I think with the band playing the newer stuff it keeps it interesting for them, which in turn will keep them touring more in the future. In my mind nothing will beat the piece of mind tour, but it has been great to see Maiden continue to grow and evolve as a band. It was amazing to see so many new younger fans loving the music just as we (over 40's) have done for so many years.
The best part for me was enjoying the experience with my 13 year old son who was attending his first Maiden show.
I could swear I saw a dude wearing a RUN DMC t-shirt at the Iron Maiden concert(?)
this is a shitty setlist....... only ballads...i think they got older..........i already sold my tickets......sorry guys but you'll don't have my money this year !!!
Great show fifth time seeing them. They all ways rock out. Can tell this show was more for the newer/ younger fan's with it just being pretty much the last 3 studio albums that they put out. But really how care it's iron maiden an thats all that really matter right? People tend to forget that iron maiden is one of the few bands that will put on show just playing stuff from older, first time i saw them all they played was song from there first 3 albums an that was just full of songs that they have not played in over 20yr's. Can't wait for the next time the back to promote the new album August 16th in Store!!! Iron maiden going to get all of you!
It's sad to see that the only-80's fans are so close minded to the newer albums... it's all Iron Maiden people! Stop complaining about the setlist and just go and enjoy the fucking show that these people want to perform for you
Yeah very tired of people complaining about the set list, I think its epic.
The concert rocked, was in section 202 almost dead center (between Bruce and Adrian). I will see them again on the next tour!
16000 people all of them standing and singing it was great wish they had played the trooper or run to the hills and would have loved passendale but it was maiden so it didnt matter what they played it would have been awsome
I thought I saw someone with a steady-cam walking through the grass. Maybe it is possible we'll have a Canadian-based DVD later this year. That would be sweet. Especially with the crowd that we had down in Toronto.
Here is what Rod had to say about the Canadian shows for all of you in the Great White North. This is from Maiden's website, you have to be a member to get access to it. Enjoy! Part 1
We flew into Vancouver straight from the Seattle show, or rather Auburn as it's a bit outside Seattle, and the following day I took a seaplane to Victoria on Vancouver Island where my parents both live. They have been in Canada thirty odd years now which I guess makes me honorary Canadian. Of course great to see them. Stayed with them overnight then took the seaplane back to Vancouver in time for the show. Have to say I always enjoy the seaplane ride, and the views are stunning. Vancouver Island is a beautiful place and the weather was wonderful.
In Canada we will play all arenas except the outdoor Moulson Amphitheater in Toronto and festivals in Ottawa and Quebec. The reason for this is nothing sinister, simply that there are not really appropriate outdoor facilities available in these cities, the stadiums being a bit on the large size even for us here! And it's a nice change, we do enjoy playing arenas but often they are not quite big enough, which was certainly the case in Vancouver where 13,000 was sold out in advance. We haven't played at the GM palace, home of the Canucks Ice Hockey team, before as it's a fairly new , and superb, facility. Lots of rooms to hide away in. As I have said before though in Canada, Health and Safety (the Cleaners?!!) is even more overboard than the UK in my humble view, so there are about half the numbers on the standing floor as in Europe. As everyone likes to be near the stage it means few people behind the sound desk -- and we like our floor to be FULL. Maybe next time we will put seats on the floor behind the desk to avoid this empty space and maybe get more fans into the show.
But that is a minor point. The audience -- on average younger than America even -- were outstanding, the band were very happy and all went very well.
After the show we went on to Edmonton and a day off. We often fly after the show when there is a day off on tour so as to wake up in a place and have a full day there -- although to me its usually a full work day to keep up with everything, despite the fact that I have family in town. My sister Pam and husband Keith moved there from Huddersfield many moons ago and it was great to see them along with niece Nicki and nephew Scott and families. They of course all came to the show with a few friends so we had a few drinks before the show. We played Rexall Place again and again sold out about 13,000. Rexall is of course home of my hockey team, the Oilers, so its always a privilege to play there. The Canadian prairies must breed Rock fans as Alberta's two main cities, Edmonton and Calgary, always have terrific audiences. Very loud! But then Alberta is such a huge province that they are probably used to shouting! Again all went extremely well for everyone I think.
Rod's Diary Part 2:
Reviews for both these shows (yes I do read them, of course!) were pretty good -- quite often newspapers don't quite "get" Maiden as I am sure you will have seen (a Dallas paper actually commented as lead to a review "slightly more interesting than seeing Spinal Tap for the 200th time " -- I guess that was a bit extreme!) But one comment caught my eye, I think from Vancouver, it said, talking about music fans in general, "no one quite likes Maiden" which I had never really thought about -- but I guess its true. We have our committed fans then there is the rest -- no one comes to our shows because its fashionable or to be seen or as part of a trend, they come for the music. Another comment recently, actually from Rick Roskin, our US agent, also struck me. He was saying that at a lot of metal shows there are a good proportion of the loud, drunk, aggressive types who feel that is how they should behave at metal shows but we just don't get that. At Maiden shows, he said, fans came for the music and actually listened. I thought this was a real compliment to all you fans out there. I don't get to a lot of other shows so wasn't particularly aware of this but I do know we never get any hassle or trouble at our shows, there is more of a feeling of community and a common appreciation of Metal the music not the clichés. I think this is part of the reason many "first generation" fans feel completely at ease bringing their young children with them (which is happening more and more) -- our fans respect and feel very at ease with each other. Anyway enough with the philosophising, and if I am correct, then thanks. We are always proud of our fans and don't need the "quite like" people or the loonies!
Getting back to the story! The day after I spent at a family BBQ catching up with family news and playing with my niece's terrific kids Jaime, 4, and Jordan, 18 months -- I had forgotten how therapeutic colouring books could be!! So I missed the Calgary show and then I flew into Toronto the next day to catch up on work. With this tour, the album coming up and organising 2011 its petty crazy right now, although the band always think I am sunbathing! So I missed Calgary, Saskatoon and Winnipeg but am told all went well. Typing this Thursday afternoon -- its Canada day here -- its about 5pm and hopefully I am going out tonight with the Banger team who did Flight 666 and all live here (inc my ex "visual man" and general good guy Dave Pattenden who used to do our screens and IMTV but moved to Toronto for love -- not just to get away from me!) So no doubt tomorrow will be a bad head day as I do have to teach these Canucks how to drink!! More in a few days after I have recovered!
- Rod
I don't get all the bitching about Maiden leaving out the "classics." I LOVE the fact that they ripped through a 2 hour setlist without most of them!
Seriously, Bruce got back with the band in '99 and have pretty much toured through Toronto on 4 greatest hits tours since!
Ed Hunter in '99
Give Me Ed Til' I'm Dead in '03
The Early Years in '05
Somewhere Back in T ime in '08
If you didn't get your fill of the almost completely classic laiden setlists on those four tours, then you need to buy a few DVD's and sit home.
I was thrilled to see the band lean so heavily on the newer material.
nobody was sitting in their seats
I was in section 301 and from where I was the whole venue was standing for Maiden
it was great to see the place full for Dream Theatre,I thought they were awesome
@maid666:
I can handle the pit, and always get pit tickets for Maiden. I didn't have trouble with the crowds intensity, but there were a couple guys behind me starting trouble. We won FTTB, and they had pushed their way up, and were just hitting the FTTB winners who wouldn't let them onto the barrier. And it wasn't like your normal "accidentally get knocked in the head" type of hitting, I got a fist directly into the back of my head and neck several times for not letting these douchebags in. As far as sort of ruining the show, they spent the first half shouting in my ear that I was a cunt, telling me how they were going to smash my face into the barrier, and calling me a pussy because I was smaller than them and didn't deserve to be on the barrier. They finally left after half the show to get beer and never came back. As I said, not your normal pit people, they were legitimately being assholes.
If someone found this site to post negative comments after show couldn't they have found this site beforehand, downloaded the setlist, burned a cd of the setlist songs and alternates, found a lyrics site, refreshed their memory of these more current songs being performed on this tour and witnessed the mastery of the performance? That is what I did and the show in Concord Calif was awesome. So glad they allowed me the opportunity to expand my knowledge of the greatness of some of the newer songs by playing them in the set. Anyone complaining did not do their homework for the show. Thanks for the internet and a little common sense I had a great time.
howdy boys- a little late here but Matt's post with Rods diary inspired me.
To all you complainers: the reason MAIDEN fans are bagging on you is because MAIDEN ROCKS. When i say that, i mean that ROCK is a feeling(when it's done correctly)- and MAIDEN is still ROCKIN- that means that when MAIDEN decides to tour or just put on a show- they are getting just as much from doing the show as we are from watching it- thats why i still enjoy watching them. If i wanted to see a group of washed up guys begging for money, then i'd buy some tic's to the scorps. MAIDEN was ROCKIN to those "classics" back in the 80's- now they're ROCKIN to el dorado. Thats what i want to see- a group of kick ass ROCKERS ROCKIN- not a group of has beens begging for money.
this will be my 1st Iron Maiden show always seem to miss out in years past and almost did this time i also bought my little brother a ticket for our birthday realy hopen it dont rain not that it will matter and cant wait till EDDIE come out gota this feeling Detorit is goina b a mad house............LONG LIVE IRON MAIDEN
Awesome show. Anyone who has a problem with the setlist should sell every piece of MAIDEN items they own. I can't believe the amount of people complaining. I love all of MAIDENS stuff. Sure I'd love to hear Aces High etc. but do you think they want to play the same sh!t over and over for 30 years. Look forward to the new CD. BUY IT.
Please keep the 2010 and 2011 tours separate. There's a huge (six month) gap between them and they both have very different setlists.
