"When you play to 50,000 people in that kind of a setting, you primarily want to play songs that people know. You maybe play more of the anthems. Sometimes the really fast songs can get kind of lost in big settings. We play so many different types of set-ups: festivals, stadiums, arenas, amphitheaters. Over the course of that, we've found what works in different situations. When we play arenas, we change the set-list up every day and play lots of obscure songs, album cuts and B-sides, but when you 're playing these really big special events like last night, I don't know if you want to start digging into super-obscure album cuts and play songs people have never heard of. It can bring the vibe down a little bit, especially when people have been standing on the desert floor for six or eight hours in 90 degree heat."

Anyone else notice how Metallica never differs from their setlist format?

For the record, Orion, Ride the Lightning, Sad But True, Hit the Lights and Blackened were all great surprises. This was the 9th time I have seen Metallica and they have never played Orion in its entirety. It was a great setlist, but I could have done without Nothing Else Matters. It was a little bit of a downer,with all the solid metal. It was an awesome show by all the bands.

Seeing Orion played paid for this trip in itself.

No Metallica concert can go without nothing else matters! If you can't realize it, so bad for you.
Metallica have been playing a different setlist each show for 7 years now.
In the end my opinion, everyone who has seen this motha truckin concert is duckin lucky! I wish I had been one of those sons of bitches....

i was there..btw whoever thinks that something was wrong with their setlist then you are just retarded..there setlist was perfect..and it was the first time ever in the U.S. that they played the whole song of orion..and if whatever song they played was your first time hearing it then thats your fault..and i think them just playing the whole song of orion was worth buying a ticket

umm big metallica fan... but only one thing.... theyve only had different setlists everynight for 4 years.... and 3 years before but in 2006 they had 2 concerts the same
