why the hell are they playing such short setlists?
and the song choices are really bad too
why cant they play old stuff
i am seein them on the 12th at O2 arena and im just really hopin they change this setlist, its really disapointing
.i doubt they will change it
Hmm how disapointing
not a massive Muse fan but rest assured this was a very good gig, the sound was great and I know everyone bangs on about Bellamy being this great guitarist but got to give the bass player credit - he was awesome. excellent show - lighting, effects and the giant balloons!
@ Jake Levy
Short? The total time of the gig is 1 hour and 45 minutes. It's definitly more than the time they played on the last tour. And the choice is great, just wait until you get there and see them, you'll be amazed how great it is. Saw them in Antwerp and going to see them again in Rotterdam, can hardly wait.
going on 10th, i don't really like they're new album, uprising i just hate loads....
You're quite unlucky if you don't like the new album...in the tour they mostly play the new songs. But a few old ones are going to be played too.
I'm going to Liverpool tonight but I'm going to struggle to get there by the doors open time. What time did muse take to the stage?
I'm not a fan of the new album either but they play the new ones well. The crowd at Sheffield were immense and there was one more song played than when I saw them last week at Lievin. 1 hour 45 is far too short for "the best live band in the world" though, especially as on previous tours I've seen them play 2 hours plus and they had fewer albums to chose from then. The setlist won't change, it's even in the programme. Would love to see them again on this tour but will save my money for the next one.
Quit your moaning guys. If you don't like it, deal with it, not every gig will suit everyone.
Mikey, last night it was about 8.45. The big pink were supporting. Depends whether you like them as to whether you should rush!
Im sure it will be amazing. I am just a little disapointed that there is none of the old songs. Bliss and Citizen Erased for an example. And how can they only play one part of the exo genesis symphany!!
It defeats the point of the symphany.
@ Jake Levy - As Mark said it was hardly short 1 hour 45. As for the set list it's very unlikey to change much during the tour, a couple of songs at most. But why is it such a surprise that on 'The Resistance Tour' they're playing song from 'The Resistance' Album!
Mikey - The Sheffield Arena website said they would come on at 8:05 but it was more like 8:45 (traffic was chaos) and played till 10:30.
In general the stage design, lighting and sound was all awesome. Great gig.
EPIC GIG
Thanks for the info. Liverpool Echo Arena are saying 8:30. I should be there by 8:00 though.
We're looking forward to it.
What an awesome show. Muse were so tight as a band. The sound was amazing, as was the stage set and lighting. A full blown concert, not just a gig. Great set list too, don't know what everyone in moaning about. Personal taste I guess...
@ fb:611670006.
You say why is it a suprise that they are playing songs from the resistance on the resistance tour but if you think about it they arent playing that much. they are missin 2 parts of the symphany. And how can they not play Mk Ultra? Thats a disgrace. They should be cuttin songs like invincible, starlight and newborn off the setlist. Which however are amazing songs, Muse have so much more to give
They SHOULD play MK Ultra! That song would kiss ass live, I'm sure!! Much better than Guiding Light and Undisclosed Desires (which i don't like)...
And why not play songs like Butterflies and Hurricanes, Citizen Erased, Space Dementia, Bliss?...Such amazing songs!
I mean, I like Feeling Good, but there's better songs in Origin of Symmetry (my favorite Muse album).
No wonder Muse are voted best live band in the world. If you haven't seen Muse you ought to, even if you're not much of a fan - we weren't big fans before but once we'd seen them we were well and truly hooked - no other band can touch them.
What an amazing concert, truly colossal! The crowd were pulsating right back to the mixing desk. The concert did leave you wanting more, but that's a Muse gig for you!!!
Really enjoyed Sheffield gig. Can see why some people are raising concerns about the set list.
Personally I'd love to see bliss and citizen erased played more and gutted that cave didn't make the set last night given they've been playing it. That said I'm liking the Resistance tracks (unatural selection especially) and the show is truly awesome. Sure there are a lot of usual suspects in the set but was reminded how great some of those songs are live when you're there.

We just got back from the gig. IMHO it was awesome.
I should put this in perspective. I'm very old ;O) I’ve seen so many excellent bands over the years. Too many to number really: As a sample, I was fortunate to see Led Zeppelin at their peak. I also watched Pink Floyd perform The Wall in 1980. My first real gig was when I was only 7 years old and my uncle took me to see The Beatles at the Liverpool Empire during their final UK tour. Seriously! Did I say I was old?
There was a period probably sometime round the mid 80’s when to me it seemed that music was dying. I’ve been encouraged over the last couple of decades to realise that I was wrong. Muse are among the bands that have made me feel more optimistic about the state of music.
One of the great things has been to see how our 13 year old daughter has grown into the current flock of bands. We took her to the gig tonight and she’s still got the smile on her face.
Anyway, I should stop now (or at least that’s what the paramedics are telling me. Did I say I was old?)
I thought they played the Whole Lotta Love riff somewhere during the gig, or at least another riff that hasnt been mentioned anywhere. Also what was riff Matt played while people were popping the balloons after plug in baby? He timed it perfectly to match the last balloon going!
^Agree, I loathe Undisclosed Desires and Guiding Light, wish they'd start playing MK Ultra. Such a good song, it's a shame it's not being played live.
I was at Sheffield - I have no idea what you are talking about. The whole thing was amazing. Stop moaning dumbasses!!!
There seems to be some confusion over whether some of the jams and riffs are extensions to songs or instrumentals in their own right. The Helsinki Jam is definitily a song - it has nothing to do with the songs before and after it, and lasts a fair while. Again, Nishe doesnt really have anything to do with its surrounding songs - its what they play while they are setting the piano up etc. Man With a Harmonica is a bit more debatable as it is an intro to Knights, but being a cover I think it should be classed as its own song.
people are comparing with Greenday on other sets. Greendays songs are no longer than 3 mins on the whole, and they crank up the tempo live.
Muses songs must average 5 mins a go. I for one, cannot wait till the 12th
call yourselves muse fans?! quit complaining. if you don't like it then bugger off and support someone else. muse were awesome. the songs they played were awesome too. it was really good to see that they could play most of the stuff from the new album live.
This is the 6th time I have now seen Muse and they just get better every time, even Wembley, and how do you pick a set from all their great songs! Believe me if you are a true Muse fan and not just a part-time player than you will love the show. The musicianship of all the three is exceptional. What a great band to also help to look for Andrew Gosden and offer their full support. Keep it up guys you are just simply number 1 of all time in my mind!
Helsinki Jam is not a song, only it´s a Jam (improv). Man With a Harmonica it is only a intro. Nishe it´s a Piano intro of United States Of Eurasia
I disagree completely. Helsinki Jam IS a staple song from the tour. Its not random mucking about. Its not just the odd riff from another song. Just because its not on an album, doesnt make any less complete. On the official setlist it is clearly listed as a seperate song, not as an intro or riff. It is NOT an intro to Undisclosed Desires. Same with Nishe - it is Chris and Dom on Bass and Drums. Matt isnt playing anything because they are playing it while the piano is being moved onto the stage. Again, it isnt an intro to USOE. In fact, both songs even have their own dedicated videos on the screens!
As for Man With a Harmonica - it was debatable what it should be classed as, but on the setlist it is in brackets next to Knights so I guess it should be classed as an intro.
Source: official setlist, and I was there.
Can't wait to see them tomorrow in Glasgow.. shame we could only get seated.. anyone know if venues exchange tickets if there are any standing ones returned?
Either way, it will be an amazing night, BELLAMY!!!!!!!
So it looks like they'll be finished for half ten tomorrow, good stuff cos I've got a train to catch at the back of eleven. Can't wait for the gig!!!!
Got to agree with 'old' Mikey. I too, at 48, am not your 'typical' Muse fan ... having been force-fed the group's music by my 15 year old daughter. I've also seen over 350 gigs, including all of the 'greats' (Stones, Led Zep, Dylan, McCartney etc.) but I didn't really know what to expect from Muse ..... do they really deserve their current 'Best Live Band' title ? The answer is a resounding "yes". The atmosphere, sound, set list & playing were all simply superb. This one makes my 'all time top 10' anyway. If you're seeing them in the next week or so .... I'm jealous. I'm still buzzing !!!!!
I would still class them as songs, but if we class them as Jams (or snippets), the following (from the official guidelines) still applies:
"Snippets
Sometimes artists just play a few lines of a song (often covers) - so-called snippets. Then the following rules apply:
If the snippet is sung for itself (i.e. not as intro or to finish another song) it should be added as song for itself with an @Info saying that is a snippet.
If the snippet is an intro for another song, appears in the middle or is used to finish the song, then the snippet should not be added as song for itself. An @Info should be added to the main song (e.g. The Remedy (I Won't Worry) @Info[With "Wonderwall" snippet by Oasis).
If song consists of snippets of two or more songs which all have about the same length, they should be added as medley."

Therefore I'm pretty sure having Nishe and Helsinki Jam seperate is correct, no matter whther you class them as songs or jams. They aren't associated with the surrounding songs. In contrast, Harmonica, War Within a Breath, Headup, Who Knows Who etc are intros / outros.
Here's an official setlist for Liverpool as well - note the seperate songs. http://musewiki.org/File:Liverpool_2009-11-05_setlist.jpg
Hopefully that concludes it. It would be nice to get this to be the standard format for the whole tour.
jams shouldn't be mentioned as stand-alone songs, as they ruin the stats
@riazor - I dont understand why? See my post above ^^. Especially the Helsinki Jam - why should it be tucked away in another song's @Info when it has nothing to do with that song? It's on the official setlist - isnt that the point of this website? Some people have put Nishe attached to Hysteria, some have attached it United States of Eurasia. That proves the point because in reality it is attached to neither - played between those songs.
Also other gigs have such things listed - the Green Day setlists are full of em. Also see the following link where Drum and Bass seems to have been approved by you and other moderators:

Im not trying to be a pain (honestly !), I just think the setlists should be as accurate as possible in terms of reflecting the official setlist in its printed form and as it played out, while following the official guidelines.
I know this is a bit late, but I'd like to say it was not a dissapointing setlist AT ALL! You have to understand that it is the RESISTANCE TOUR so they are going to play mostly songs from RESISTANCE, ok? If you want to hear more songs and older songs, then go see them in London or Manchester in September, which is what I'm doing :D and it will be amazing. Not that I didn't enjoy that show in Sheffield, to quote Matthew "the best thing that's happened this century... it was amazing" in a Q magazine interview ;)
