"The Thin Line" was crossed out on the set list and replaced with "Rhythm of Hope," but "RoH" ultimately was not played.
So they shortened the setlist from a couple weeks ago? I'm going in Detroit and I hope they add back 3 of the best songs in the prior sets. Did they have to shorten the show for some reason?
Geoff had some severe vocal issues a week and half ago or so, and was advised by a doctor not to sing for three days. All concerts since then have omitted a number of songs outright, and replaced a couple others. The "My Empty Room" excerpt (a replacement) was just Wilt playing the guitar, while Geoff apparently played sax a bit (couldn't hear it, though). "At the Edge" replaced something else. All concerts up until Greensburg had either "The Thin Line" or "Rhythm of Hope." Before the show roadies came out and scratched something out from the setlists they had down. When I got a look at it, "Line" had been crossed out and "Hope" written in, but they actually skipped that entirely; it would have been between "At the Edge" and "Real World," I think.
Omitted and/or replaced were "The Lady Wore Black," "Walk in the Shadows," "NM 156," "Take Hold of the Flame," "The Hands" and "At 30,000 Ft."
Gotta say the overall experience was rather disappointing: muddy sound, Geoff was struggling, shortened set list from the start of the tour that was apparently shortened at this show (Line/Hope removed)... they've performed much better and much longer with more variety. Had the set been the full set of 19 songs or so, the experience would have been better. But all we ended up getting was basically choppy performances of greatest hits.
BTW, love the username. When a name I want is taken somewhere I usually add 2112 to make it mine. :)
Ugh. Thanks for the info. I thought maybe it was a vocal issue. I know the old classics work his voice the hardest but I really wanted my daughter to see the old and the new. My first show was in San Diego in 1986 for the Rage for Order tour. Amazing! Yeah Rush is still my all time favorite but they are all getting near the end of touring I think.
I will give an update over the weekend about the show. I read that the show a couple nights ago was better. I've seen them at their best and worst but usually the rest of the band make up for any vocal letdowns.
OK, went to the show in Detroit on Friday the 19th. Geoff's voice sounded strong in the lower ranges. Still had Jason Ames do guest vocals and he did an awesome job on Screaming in Digital! They also did Thin Line and Walk in the Shadows which were missing from a couple prior shows. All considered I thought the whole band did an awesome job. To me the biggest letdown was the second band the Voodoos. For the official opening act, they were quite mediocre and sounded more like a garage band to me. The opening band Ballz Deluxe, on the other hand, kicked some butt!
But back to Queensryche, Geoff made it through the whole set. You can tell he was guarding his voice but I expect that he will be back full force soon. With his range and power I think they should just play every three days on the next tour so that he can rest his voice and show all the fans what he is still capable of doing.
