definately played all these songs in roughly this order, gig was filmed not sure what for (future dvd release?) audience sat politely in their seats like meek little mice until same old scene pity could have been a better gig than it was O2 is a horrid shed and to overcome that people need to make an effort grumble grumble...

Mick Keogh February 8, 2011 4:00:35 AM UTC

I was at the gig and it took two bands to come on before Roxy. The bands were really good, just not sure if this was the right gig?Are they related to the band or on the same label.

Phil's guitar at the start well till about six songs in was far too loud, his side of the stage.

It started really well but the midtempo songs in the middle section, I am sorry to say dragged and I think when they went into the last section, people stood up because they were glad they were hearing the more uptempo songs?
?I love Roxy and don't want to slag them off,but seeing
how this was the last gig in Europe,it could have been better and where was Chris Spedding? They really really missed him and Neil Hubbard?

It was still great to be there and Avalon, bought a tear to my eye.

A gig of two halves. First half art-rock and no audience reaction; second half pop and people getting involved. Certainly NOT the Ferry show, more the Phil and Andy show.

Nearly walked out of the concert. I love Roxy but the sound engineers really screwed this up. The sound balance was poor and often over loud. The subtleties of the band's music was in the most part lost; good backing vocals were often lost in the heavy bass sounds and even Ferry's voice was lost at time. It was so loud at times that there was no pleasure. My wife had to put up with my grumbling all the way home. This should have been a great concert but the sound engineering ruined a fine performance. Where were Chris Spedding and Lucy Thompson?

I also wrote a setlist last night -Paul's list is correct EXCEPT for his order of 6-8 -6 was "In Every Dreamhome...", 7 was Just Like You" and 8 was "Amazona". A great night though not too many marks for audience engagement or encores!

Having read the reviews for earlier concerts I was anticipating a mixed bunch of songs and a mixed performance at the O2. A set list chosen by the band (I assume) as representing their favourites, with little compromise to a younger audience, was absolutely superb and very brave. Coming from the vinyl era, when you listened to the whole record from start to finish, the choice of songs didn't phase me - I could sing along to all of them. But I did feel for the youngsters sitting near me, who lost interest very quickly and disappeared half way through (to the bar I suspect). They missed some wonderful sections with mournful oboe, haunting guitar and atmosheric piano solos. They missed a weird and wonderful set, complimented by a very convincing vocal performance by Mr. Ferry. They missed the point.

I saw the setlist before the show and just knew it was going to be fantastic !! It certainly was with magnificent performances by Andy, Phil and Paul and Ferry. Sadly the audience were expecting songs from the 80's as it was quite quiet for the first 13 songs. I was in heaven with 2HB/If there is something/Amazona..... These were songs from a time when Roxy Music was not just the name of the band but a distinctive style of music. The intro to Sentimental Fool was outstanding and Roxy at their best. A reminder of why for a few years in the early 70's they were the greatest band in the world !!!! Viva Roxy !!

This was a gutsy performance by Roxy, appealing to their hardcore fans who've admired them for 40 years. The audience only flickered into life when the later, more popular tracks emerged, but for me the first hour was magnificent, bringing back fond memories of some superb tracks from their earlier albums. Ferry, Thompson and - especially - Mackay and Manzanera at their glorious best, delivering powerful and faithful performances adored by their 70s' aficionados. Oliver Thompson was terrific, reminiscent of the rest of the band in their heyday. Many in the audience looked bewildered as Roxy gave us Pyjamarama, Every Dream Home a Heartache, Sentimental Fool and Editions of You: thumping classics delivered to the delight of the "old guard" of fans. This was live Roxy at is best - refusing after all these years to sacrifice principles for popularity. Many expecting to bop to Ferry at the O2 will have felt a bit deflated. For others like myself this was an outstanding performance, perhaps never to be repeated. For Your Pleasure did exactly what it said on the tin. Brilliant.

Have to agree with Nicola and David - absolutely fantastic concert. Couldn't believe how lucky we were to be hearing all the old classic album tracks. I thought that at best it would be a trawl through the more commercially successful tunes with one or two 'oldies' thrown in, but this was a dream come true for us 50 somethings who queued outside the Rainbow in Finsbury Park and numerous other venues to see our heroes back in the early 1970's.
Some reviews in the papers have obviously been written by 25 year olds with no idea of how brilliant and important Roxy Musics' early stuff was.
Yes - the sound quality could have been better and the view from the rear seats was probably appalling with no video screens but from where I was sitting it was brilliant - if this hadn't been the last UK gig I would have bought another ticket the next day. I was surrounded with fans of my age who sang along with every word of every song and a couple of twenty year olds who jumped up to applaud after every track - obviously well brought up!! All in all, a magical night.

Saw three shows on the "For Your Pleasure Tour". The last 3. In Birmingham and Nottingham the crowds ROCKED from start to finish! The O2 was full of dead fish until "The Same Old Scene", when I could not restrain myself any longer and got up to dance which seemed to trigger a chain reaction around me (12th row center). Ferry's face lit up and he admonished the crowd saying "oh there you are, I wondered where you were?" The set list was amazing as they played songs I had never heard live before and I have seen them at least ten times since 1975. I had to travel from the US to see these shows and wish I could have seen all 7. I hope they come to America one more time so that all my friends, who I turned on to their music, can see them again too!

Hello again. I have read a lot of the O2 concert press reports this week and wanted to respond to them. Sadly, it seems as if (most of) the reviewers on your website witnessed a rather different event from the one that the music press “reviewed” this week, for which the general view of the O2 event was “average”. Indeed, Bloomberg’s reporter was bordering on the insulting, and his was a very lazy review. The problem – as others on this web page have correctly highlighted – is that many fans were hoping to hear the later, more commercial stuff, which never materialised on the night. For those with little enthusiasm for the band’s chosen set list then I accept that the combination of the poor lighting, limited images of the band on the big screen, Ferry’s frequent departure off stage, the sheer distance from the stage of some of the seats and rather steep ticket prices simply poured petrol on the flames for the rest of their evening. On the other hand, we (and, I hope, the disgruntled fans) must all remember that “old guard” Roxy fans have patiently endured many, many commercial concerts and albums in recent years and so this was “our night”, and I am really glad that the band adhered to that principle. My two brothers and I, all in our 50s, and elated with the chosen set list, unashamedly belted out the words to every single song and we were all on an adrenalin buzz well into the next day. I have listened to the old albums over and over during the last few days and am reminded of just how excellent they were. Roxy always were really cutting edge and intelligent musicians producing works of art that would last for 40 years, and beyond. 40 years! They’re all now eligible for bus passes yet they’re still banging out fantastic performances, and the press are having a pop at them! Get real, please! Mackay’s work still pierces the senses and Manzanera’s solos are spine tingling; I don’t know of a more powerful lyric/guitar solo combination than Ferry’s last line in “Dreamhome” – “but you blew my mind”- followed by Manzanera’s launch into his stunning solo. Every time I play that track, I turn the volume up to full at that point. It is awesome. It’s not just an age thing either: my son, now 22, also loves Roxy and really appreciates their qualities as creative musicians. He was (well, forcibly I guess!) weaned on Roxy as a captive audience in the back seat of our car on long journeys, initially via cassettes before we progressed to CDs! He’s now a big Roxy fan too and has every Roxy and Ferry album on his I-Pod – and he too prefers to older Roxy material. So let’s take the press reports in context. Was the O2 Roxy at their very best? Probably not. Was it hugely entertaining for true and loyal fans? Yes, absolutely. Did we lose all of our inhibitions for 90 minutes and revisit some amazing memories from the past? Oh yes, oh yes. Did we forget reality for one evening and have a “really good time”? Amazingly so. Oh, the “thrill of it all”! David

Hi again! Have read some of the other reviews and I am really happy for the people who enjoyed the gig,I did too,but something keeps coming back to me from the gig, that Bryan really did look like his was struggling?

I hope that he is well, but to me he looked very tired even exhausted.

It will be interesting if a dvd of the gig comes out,so I can see if I was at the same gig.Just like to say that I grew up with Roxy too and really love them a lot and hope that this is not the last tour, because people need to see them, perhaps just not at the 02.

You guys are down right lucky that you got this setlist

Before I brought tickets to a Roxy Music concert in Adelaide, Australia I was worried about the potential setlist of the concert as I was afraid that the concert would be dominated by songs from the last four synth pop albums and I wasn't really a fan of that.

So I came and check out the setlist to previous gigs of the tour and I was pleasantly surprise.

You guys at London got 14 songs from the first four albums. I quickly bought tickets to see Roxy Music.

Well look likes they have a rather cynical view of the Adelaide Audience because that 14 songs came down to 8 and I was pretty disapointed. Only 2 songs from their debut album and 1 song from Stranded which was disappointing.

Nevertheless the performance was good and at least I heard a brilliant performance of "If There Was Something" and "In Every Dream Home a Heartache"

I do hope that this concert would be released in DVD as I would love to watch it.
