Kinda figured they wouldn't keep Ticks and Leeches for too long. Darn. So close to seeing it live...

best show ever!

toolman420 January 21, 2012 7:45:41 AM UTC

really disappointed Ticks and Leeches is out. but i'll forgive them if they replace Sober with Flood or Undertow. awesome that they added Parabol/Parabola though. 4 days to go... the anticipation is killing me!

toolman420 January 21, 2012 7:49:29 AM UTC

oh and do we reallllly need Intension? they could def replace that with something alot better. maybe H. or Eulogy

DaleGribbl January 21, 2012 8:17:31 AM UTC

I was at this show tonight. Really great show overall. Intension was definitely the low point. A lot of people took their seats during this song. They actually did a Ticks and Leeches teaser before Sober. They played about the first 30 seconds of it before going into Sober, so you may see it later on in the tour again.

I hear ya on 'Intension', but I bet it was selected as kind of a chillout point of the set. I won't lie, we actually went and grabbed a beer at that point. Can't believed they opened w/ 'Hooker w/ a Penis', and they played 'Parabola'...fucking 'Parabola'. 'Jambi' was always one of my favs off 10,000 Days, and that song KILLS live! 10/10 for me. Too be honest out of the three times I have seen tool (this being one of them), they have always been incredible.

muffinzilla January 22, 2012 7:42:04 PM UTC

This was my first Tool concert and I will never forget this concert! My life was complete when they played Sober, since I covered the song about a year before. And I had the biggest feeling that they were going to play Parabola because I heard them testing Adam's low B guitar in soundcheck... I can't believe that that song was not played in 10 years! Tool is honestly the best true rock/metal band out there!!! \m/ \m/

toolman420 January 23, 2012 3:33:12 AM UTC

Here's my dream setlist....

Hooker With A Penis
Jambi
H. (instead of Stinkfist)
Ticks and Leeches (instead of Sober)
Pushit
The Grudge (instead of Schism)
Flood (instead of Intension)
Forty Six & 2
Lateralus
Parabol/Parabola
Ænema

mpaullin January 23, 2012 3:51:31 PM UTC

Hey, can anyone tell me whether they which version of Pushit they played? Is it like the studio version or that newly arranged version that was released on Salival? Thanks!

mannyf January 23, 2012 4:04:04 PM UTC

@mpaullin... it was the studio version. it was awesome but it would have blew my mind if it were the Salival version.

either way i've seen Tool at least 15 times and this was one of the best ones i've seen. the entire production and sound was on point!

mpaullin January 23, 2012 5:06:01 PM UTC

Thanks for the feedback. I've never been disappointed with a Tool show (though they've been getting shorter and shorter each tour) and am stoked to see them this weekend in NJ. The Salival version of Pushit just might be my favorite songs of their though. I get chills every time I listen to it. I'm happy to see be seeing at least a few songs I haven't heard them do before: Hooker with a Penis, Pushit, and Ticks and Leeches/ Sober (whichever they choose). I still can't believe I've seen them about 6 or so times and have never seen them do Sober.

Jdubya420 January 23, 2012 5:13:34 PM UTC

The main reason you have not heard those songs, from what I understand anyways, is because they simply would not play them anymore. I've heard it was because the songs were written in dark times, mainly referring to Opiate and Undertow here, and that the songs were too grim a reminder of Maynard and Adam's heroin addictions. It's just what I have heard, so not 100% there, but it does seem somewhat logical considering both of those albums are definitely heroin infused.

LOL maynard and adam have never had heroin addictions ;)

maynard refuses to play prison sex and 10,000 days because they're about his child abuse and the death of his mom, respectively.

they barely ever played ticks because maynard couldn't sing for 3 weeks after recording it. sober's not that unheard of, they played a bunch in '06 and '02, they don't play it often anymore cause its the radio hit from almost 20 years ago, and they have bigger and better songs. they're playing intension now cause they only played it for the first time twice in '10. and they're playing hooker now cause...well read the lyrics. anymore questions?

p.s. for fans, schism is the low point not intension.

thablakester January 25, 2012 9:09:47 PM UTC

ThirdEye....I gotta disagree with u on that last statement because Schism is NO WAY the low point. There's somethin wrong with a fan if every hair in their body isn't standing on end during the bridge when they hit that A chird going back into the end of the song...that's always been the high point for me in my 3 times seeing them...well, that next to the silent pause just before the end of Lateralus.

velvetgrass January 25, 2012 9:14:16 PM UTC

The low point of the show or if there is a low point all depends on the individual. In other words it's a matter of opinion. I've never actually been to a Tool show but I would absolutely love to see them. but if I did. But if I went to a show Schism would be a higher point in the show for me personally than Intension for me because Schism was the initial song that got me into Tool starting off.

And thirdeye42012, for your information Maynard never refused to 10,000 Days (or Wings For Marie). They were played a bunch in 06 and 07.

Jdubya420 January 25, 2012 9:36:59 PM UTC

First of all no one was asking questions. Secondly, if you don't think heroin had any impact on there music, why would there first album be called Opiate. IMO the song Stinkfist is completely about heroin.

Maynard said it himself alot of the album written in perspective of drugs and recovery
can be any drug/addiction though HEROIN fits it best

It's not enough.
I need more.
Nothing seems to satisfy.
I don't want it.
I just need it.
To feel, to breathe, to know I'm alive.

*Addicts after awhile, especially heroin addicts who experience withdrawal, get to a point where they don't want to do the drug anymore they have to just to not be sick, to live life daily.

Lastly, velvetgrass is right. It completely depends on the individual. Intension was never a fav of mine even though it's still a good song. IMO it was kinda like a little intermission, but whatever. Also, about 10,000 days, I heard them play Wings for Marie pt 1 and 2 at American Airlines Center back in '06-'07(can't remember the year). I had also heard that was the first time they played the song in its entirety live. And Schism a low point? You got it twisted Bro Namath.

Jdubya420 January 25, 2012 9:38:52 PM UTC

damn it... their*

johnp734 January 26, 2012 4:06:33 PM UTC

Friday's show was pretty amazing! I went to Saturday's as well, but both had me at full chub. The sound on Saturday's was slightly better (they had a chance to adjust a little bit of the tones on Adam's guitar after the first show), but nevertheless, pretty f-ing epic.

Only gripe is those goddamn shirt and poster prices....kinda broke the bank on my end. $45 for a shirt stings just a bit, but the hell with it, I know they're not gonna tour for quite a while.

I'm a happy camper......cheers!

Jdubya420. Are you for real or a troll? It seems like you really are that dumb.

No one in tool was EVER a heroin addict. Stinkfist is not about heroin and opiate is referring to the Marx quote about religion. I'm sure you are sixteen or seventeen or something. If not... Man. Get a degree or something. Or just fucking google stuff before making absurdly moronic statements.
