About
Mystie Chamberlin , aka Just Another Folk Singer, moved from IL to NYC in May 2006 with a bass guitar, a duffel bag, & a pillow. Since 2004, she’d imposed herself on a group of East Village, the Antagonist Movement, a group who aimed to push art, themselves, & each other to create. Her 1st musical attempt was in 2007 as a bass player in ThrowAway Grrls, an all girl band. Before breaking up, TAG performed 2 shows, the 2nd one being sold-out opening for Pet Semetary, Tragedy, & Mr. Brownstone. After more than a few lapses in judgment, countless adventures, and a heartbreak or two, she estranged herself into her East Village apartment & learned how to play guitar.
In 2008, she sang and played guitar for a handful of shows with her merch-girl business partner, fellow artist & bassist, Charlotte Eerie as the Merch Grrls (They sold merch for many NY and Chicago bands including Cameron McGill, Jesse Malin, The Dirty Pearls, and Marah). By 2009, she performed solo, but discovered herself plagued with stage-fright. Nevertheless, she continued since she received a message from her ex-non-boyfriend advising that she try to play 100 shows. She completed #100 on February 26, 2010 opening for Jesse Malin.
Her first recording, The Devil & the Deep Blue Sea (May 18, 2010), was produced, recorded and arranged by Mark Suall (The Revelons, Big Iron, Hillbilly Peckers, & The Valentine Six). That year she sang a duet with Tommy London of The Dirty Pearls & also collaborated with local musician/songwriter Leah Lax on the song Guitar and Heart Strings. After forming a partnership with David Fleming, the pair began collecting an array of instruments & recording devices. They performed minimalist, songs sporadically in NYC. They called themselves Teh Typos, a name which they took from an online post by Rhett Miller.
Aside from music, Mystie works in various types of art. She expanded her writing & participates regularly in a writing workshop with Pamela Des Barres (the GTO’s).
