setlist.fm to Spotify Playlist Converter

THANK YOU FOR THIS! I like to create playlists to discover new bands in advance of attending music festivals. I have spent countless hours building Lollapalooza playlists. This will save me enormous amounts of time.

A feature request (I won't cry if you don't have time to implement, but it would be cool) – allow me to paste in a few setlist URLs and your tool builds a playlist with the union of all songs, doing its best to preserve order. A lot of bands might be playing 25-30 songs on tour, but they only play 20 or so in a given night, so it would be nice to try to pick a few setlists that look representative of the tour.

Thanks for the feedback! I don't really know how to implement your idea though. Or maybe I just don't fully understand it. Can you give me an example using existing setlists?

I can try to help with this – or at least my desire for the same kind of thing. If you look at the counting crows https://www.setlist.fm/search?query=counting+crows their set list changes every night. It would be great to be able to use the URL of several shows and build one comprehensive list that includes all of the songs played over several shows (and avoids duplicates). I’ve done this a lot manually (which takes forever). Thanks so much for building this. Next message is to my kids as they will love this too!

One other thing…. I noticed on my phone that I had to hold the phone sideways to be able to paste the link in. (I couldn’t see the paste button as the field started way over to the left). If you want, there might be a way to have the screen resize for phones. NBD as I figured a way around it but thought I’d share.

So thankful you built this!!!

@daeath: I really don't think this is a straightforward idea as you might think it is. But I can maybe try to experiment a little with average setlists and scraping.

As for the mobile design, I'm gonna revamp the design from scratch eventually to be more in line with differing window sizes.

No scraping please, always use the API!

Ah, apologies. Yeah, no scraping then, but also no average setlists. Would be cool if you could update the API in that regard.

A few minor updates.

Once again fixed some internal issues related to the search algorithm; if you ever noticed how songs with an apostrophe tend to be the ones missed the most, this should now hopefully be a problem of the past.

I also rearranged some website elements to make it hopefully compatible with any screen aspect ratio. The detailed option descriptions are now also more easily accessible.

Thanks for this service. It's really helpful.

I just wanted to note that this setlist:
https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/weezer/2023/naeba-ski-resort-yuzawa-japan-5ba4d74c.html
had the songs:
The Waste Land
Return to Ithaka
and it wouldn't find them because on the album they're listed as:
I. The Waste Land
III. Return to Ithaka

I don't know if this will introduce more mistakes than results, but maybe considering the results are from the same artist then it's okay to ignore prefixes like “I. “? I don't know how common it is among missed results (songs available on Spotify but still not found).

Proud to be the one to have tested the 1.000 setlist on your nice gimmick.

Well done! Good work!

Wow, 1000 setlists already converted. That's crazy, I didn't expect to get more than 10 requests by the end of the year. Very glad so many people find usage in this tool!

@shwartz: Originally, this was possible, but I had to make some adjustments to the code logic. In technical terms: the start of both the Spotify song name and setlist.fm song name must match, otherwise it's gonna cause a lot of other issues down the road.

I'm actually more surprised why the songs aren't setlisted as they are on Spotify in the first place. Usually the people around here are very good at consistency.

Because the guidelines say to use musicbrainz, not spotify

Ahhh, that explains a lot, thanks.

Though, in terms of finding the songs on Spotify, doesn't make it any easier, unfortunately.

musicbrainz is more reliable than Spotify, so you might want to talk to Spotify about using musicbrainz too ;-)

I have more chance getting hit by a lightning than getting anyone from Spotify to react to my feature requests. Trust me, I've tried. Multiple times.
