Same song not recognized after name change

There was a band called Rhapsody (italian metal band). It split up in two independet bands in 2011. Rhapsody of Fire and Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody, therefore the song catalog of therese bands before 2011 is the same. As I attended two concerts in 2000 and 2019 some of the same songs where on the setlist, yet they are not recognized as the same. At https://musicbrainz.org the Rhapsody is assigned as an alias for Rhapsody of Fire. Still, on the statistic for one of these songs, if went through the latest show, it shows to be assigned to only one artist:
https://www.setlist.fm/stats/songs/rhapsody-of-fire-6bd6daba.html?song=Land+of+Immortals
If I access the song statistics from the show I went on back 2000, I am getting entire different statistics https://www.setlist.fm/stats/songs/rhapsody-53d683ad.html?song=Land+of+Immortals
Is there a way to merege these together ? So the stuff from Rhapsody time (1995-2011) should be equally assigned to Rhapsody of Fire as well as to Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody.

There are several ways to achieve this, the recommended one is to use the @Cover tag. This means tagging all “Rhapsody” songs that “Rhapsody of Fire” performs as @Cover[Rhapsody]. This way the stats of the songs are the same.

This wouldn't be fair to the band, as these aren't covers. These where written by the same band, that just changed the name. And they are also recognized as the same when perfomed by Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody, which would make it double unfair, to mark them as covers for Rhapsody of Fire.

to mark them as covers for Rhapsody of Fire.

Not quite, they're marked as covers of Rhapsody (as the original artist) and not “Rhapsody of Fire”. So all songs belong to the initial artist and get their valid stats. Meaning you'll be able to see how often the song has been played in total, by Rhapsody, by Rhapsody of fire and by Luca Turilli's Rhapsody.

Note that the “recommended way” is the only correct way in this instance. This isn't the first time such a case occurs either. See e.g. Rainbow playing Deep Purple songs – Ritchie Blackmore wrote some of the songs, but they're listed as covers. This is one of the current technical restrictions of setlist.fm, but it's vital to follow the guidelines on this one as otherwise the stats are incorrect – just as you reported.

“to mark them as covers for Rhapsody of Fire.” This was my mistake. I meant cover of Rhapsody.

I see, but does this mean this applies even for the name change (as it was here), even when it is listed as an alias at https://musicbrainz.org ?

Sorry, but yes, even then. Currently only direct artist relations, meaning persons from a band get a different treatment. E.g. whenever Paul McCartney played a Beatles (or Wings) song, it'll be listed as “The Beatles Song” instead of “The Beatles Cover”. Internally the values are saved in the exact same way, this is why it's important to use the cover tag with Rhapsody as well. It's on the TODO list to display this as “Rhapsody Song” as well, but there's no ETA yet. Sorry again.
