Error 429

Hi,

I am getting the error 429 since today with the message “Limit Exceeded”. Have you got a documentation about this error?

Thanks

I'm getting this error too. Have already been contacted by a lot of people asking why my app is broken. Please get back to us on this soon!

I'm getting this error too. Receiving a bunch of emails/messages about this (my app is completely broken), would be great to understand what's going on!

On the settings of the app we have now:

Rate limit max. 16.0/second and max. 50000/DAY

Why we didn't get an email? Why it's blocked all the day? I don't think I got 50000/day..Looks like when we have more than 16/second it's blocked for all the day :(

Hey there,

just checked your API keys and you're both well below the new 50k/DAY restriction.

The throttling got changed from 20 per second (10 concurrent/burst) to 16 per second (8 concurrent/burst) – this is what might have hit you. Here are a few examples how you could have gotten the 429 Too Many Requests response (taken from the more detailed AWS docs):

- If you submit 16 requests in a one second period evenly (e.g. 1 request every 62 milliseconds), the API processes all requests without dropping any
- If you send 16 request in the first millisecond, the API serves 8 of those requests and throttles the rest in the one-second period – i.e. the other 8 return with status code 429
- If you submit 8 requests in the first millisecond and then evenly spread 8 request through the remaining 999 milliseconds, the API processes all 16 requests in the one-second period without returning 429 Too Many Requests

To avoid hitting the 429 status code, it's recommended to adapt your app's API access to the limits mentioned before.

You shouldn't be getting the 429 for the whole day though. If you're sure that you're getting the 429 response codes while staying within the throttling limit, then please post in this forum topic.

cheers

Hi Michi,

Thanks for all the informations. It's very clear now for me, even if I am pretty sure that's I got this error all evening yesterday night. I got the error at around 18.30 yesterday, I try again at 19.30 with Postman and on my girlfriend phone just after and I got the same error. I try once last time at around 21.00 and got the same error.
This morning everything looks fine and back to normal.

Thanks, Benoit

That's good to hear. I believe you of course when you say that you received the error for a longer period of time. Please keep reporting in case the error shows up again – and you can't explain why.

Thanks Michi for the help!
