Cover assignments

Can we implement a clearer guideline (or exception) for the cases of songs like Under Pressure? For many years it was assigned here to just Queen because of its appearance on Hot Space album. Now, relatively recently (this year) all setlists were changed again to assign the song to Queen & David Bowie per original single release.
There should be more strict rules for what happens when
a) collab song stays a one-off single (or soundtrack/various artists track)
b) song eventually gets released on one of co-performers' individual studio album/EP
c) same as b but it appears on compilation or live album instead
d) perhaps additional rules for when the song is not labeled as equal collaboration? There are so many variation out there: Artist & Artist; Artist with Artist; Artist x Artist; Artist + Artist; Artist vs. Artist; Artist (feat. Artist). Especially in pop and hip-hop, there are so many singles that are just one-off tracks by “Artist (feat. Artist2)”

If we keep creating more guideline exceptions it will just get more and more confusing. Here's what it says in our FAQ for roadie/ moderator album assignment:
A song should be assigned to its earliest appearance on a:
“Regular” album
“Regular” EP
Compilation album
Live album or live EP (official release only)
Single
That's the order of importance for how we choose which release to assign a song. I think the only reason that moderator chose to change “Under Pressure” is because the single was released before the album AND the single was credited to “Queen & David Bowie”. Personally, I would've just left it with its album. If you wanted to debate that change then that would be your best argument. “Why was the single chosen over the album release?”
That's a fairly uncommon occurrence though. Normally if a single is released (either before or after the album) the artist name would be the same.

I'm pretty sure that it is assigned to the single because, as ExecutiveChimp says, 'the single was released before the album AND the single was credited to “Queen & David Bowie.'
The single came out in October 1981 and the album Hot Space came out in May 1982. Normally in cases like that, with less than a year between the album and single, we 'd just assign it to the album, as long as the single artist and album artist were the same. But in this case, if you assign it to the album, I don't think there is an option to credit it to Queen & David Bowie.'
Anyway, it's an objective fact that the song was originally released by 'Queen & David Bowie,' not by Queen, and I think the guidelines are pretty clear about the need to assign cases like that to whoever put it out first.
I have noticed that a lot of modern single releases by a particular artist are often (artist) with (guest artist). I think that cases like that are a little different, as it's a guest appearance rather than a collaboration, and such artists combinations are unlikely to show up in Musicbrainz in any case. But 'Under Pressure' was written and recorded very collaboratively by Bowie with the four members of Queen, so it's not like Queen just invited him to do a guest vocal on a song they had already finished.

On an unrelated note, is it possible to un-submit wrong duplicate report that I created in error (other than mention it here)? I just made one about The Cowsills song.

The song “In the City” is attributed to Joe Walsh as the original artist. He is the lead singer of it, in his role as a member of Eagles. The song appeared first on their album The Long Run and should be attributed to Eagles and not Joe Walsh.

^Walsh released a solo version of the song in early 1979, on The Warrior soundtrack, about half a year before The Long Run came out. That’s why it’s listed as an Eagles song on Eagles setlists.

@Blackjackmark – Joe Walsh was the co-writer and “In the City” was first released by Joe Walsh on The Warriors soundtrack. The Eagles later recorded and released the song on their album. The songwriter's first release of the song gets the cover credit. A good read (interview) with the other co-songwriter about the writing and Wash's recording of the song for The Warriors soundtrack and later on The Eagles album.

During the weekend, Pearl Jam finally played “Gremmie Out of Control” for the first time. The song is a cover of a group called The Silly Surfers. However now it turns out that said artist is not even on setlist.fm. What should we do on a case like that?

First, we go to musicbrainz to check if they are entered there, and if they are we can import their mbid (identifying number this site uses).
Guidelines about Artists
If they aren't on MusicBrainz we google for sources (discogs, AllMusic, Wikipedia, whosampled etc, about the artist.
Then we enter the artist in musicbrianz with the sources (it's easy to add an artist on that site, releases are a little more complicated).
Once saved an mbid is generated and we import that on this site.
The Silly Surfers weren't entered on MusicBrainz.
I added them and started the import. It may take 2 hours to complete, it may take 2 days.

@kfinch
It appearsas if in the final setlist they now show correctly, but if you look deeper, they are added as covers, but display as songs. I struggled quite a bit trying to get them entered correctly. Look at both the first Tape entry and also the last in this link. Please look at all of the edit comments to get a better picture.

Then when you can, tell me the proper procedure to record this type of entry.

@1SGBOB1 There's nothing to fix, the “cover” tag is used and it shows up as “Song” in the finalized setlist when it applies (for tapes or for when the a solo artist plays a song from their own band). Its the way the system has to add the hyper link to the band. Thats why when it appears as “cover” while editing it shows up in blue and you can click to go to Sabbath's page, while if you put it in an info note its just plain text. We use the info note when the taped song is recorded by someone other than the original artist (if they used Faith No More's War Pigs recording, you would write Faith No More versionin the info note for example) but since they use the original the current way is correct

This should be listed as a Giorgio Moroder song, not Kylie Minogue: https://www.setlist.fm/song/kylie-minogue/right-here-right-now-3bfe6c50.html
See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_Here ,Right_Now(Giorgio_Moroder_song)#Live_performances

@PMgep There are two songs with the same name “Right Here, Right Now” that Kylie Minogue is attached too.
The first “Right Here, Right Now” she co-wrote and released on her 1991 album. Lyrics
“Right Here, Right Now” written and released by Giorgio Moroder feat. Kylie Minogue in 2015. Lyrics completely different than the 1991 song.
Do you know which version of the same-named (but different) songs she was performing at the shows listed here?
Considering the performances were in 2015, the same year the Giorgio Moroder song was released it seems likely it was that version. Do you have a link to a YT/social media video for a source? The song was originally entered on Kylie's setlists as a Giorgio Moroder cover and changed by a Moderator who probably didn't research the songs and figured the cover assignment was an error.

@PMgep – I found videos of the 2015 song performance (with the cover artist guesting each night) on Kylie's Australia tour. The 2015 performances of the song have been given the cover credit to Giorgio Moroder. There is no listing of the 1991 song being performed live on this site.
