[traditional] is the correct artist
Posted 14 Mar 2014, 4:10:47
No it's not, the correct artist is:
Traditional
Traditional never wrote his name with square brackets.
This one is wrong as well:
http://www.setlist.fm/stats/songs/traditional-33d72459.html?song=John+Brown's+Dream
Let's have these two same songs listed as one with the right songwriter.

http://www.setlist.fm/stats/songs/traditional-5bd2f7e4.html?song=When+the+Saints+Go+Marching+In
Traditional also wrote these songs and countless others.

[traditional] is the correct artist.
There is no such artist as “Traditional” on MusicBrainz. Thus, it will eventually be deleted from Setlist.fm.
I will work on moving all the songs from Traditional to [traditional].
Please use [traditional] going forward. The MBID is 9be7f096-97ec-4615-8957-8d40b5dcbc41
Traditional never wrote his name with square brackets.
Traditional is not a person. It denotes that the true authorship of the song is unknown (or irrelevant).

leglessmoof, I can do that, you can go ahead with other issues.
Some month ago there were about 8 different “traditional” MBIDs used here, so I started to group all songs under the MBID most used.
Anyway, half of the songs have been moved to the correct artist, if the case was easy. These remaining songs use [traditional] as a place holder, but I will move them to the correct MBID. Some can be moved to the correct artist again, if there is one already, so I will check every one of them on the weekend.

@Philippe Landry:
http://www.setlist.fm/stats/songs/son-house-1bd60174.html?song=Preachin'+Blues
This one may not be a Robert Johnson cover and if it ain't, the real name of the song would be Preachin' the Blues.
Son House was an influence on Robert Johnson.
secondhandsongs says they are two different songs with similar titles, wikipedia has no entry. Maybe you can find a better source for that. I can't batch edit by guess.

@pomes27:
Wikipedia : “ Ramp! (The Logical Song) , or just The Logical Song in certain territories, is a 2001 single by the German techno band Scooter… This version heavily samples Supertramp's recording.”
The Scooter version uses two lines of the chorus(?) from Supertramp's song, plus extra lyrics :
I would count it as a new song, but of course it is no easy thing to decide. The main thing is, is it a cover or has it sampled parts. For example the hook of “Take On Me” (a-ha) has been sampled on Pitbull/Christina Aguilera's “Feel This Moment”. I think it should be decided on a case by case basis.
Also “bastard songs” like Kid Rock's All Summer Long (contains Sweet Home Alabama and Werewolves of London) usually are new songs.

@Philippe Landry:
http://www.setlist.fm/stats/songs/nofx-1bd689c0.html?song=What+Now+Herb?
is that very same song played by the same band
http://www.setlist.fm/stats/songs/herb-alpert-7bd63aa4.html?song=What+Now+Herb?
Is this an interpretation of http://www.secondhandsongs.com/performance/23924/all#nav-entity or a different song ?
If it is an interpretation it would be a Gilbert Bécaud song though.

@Philippe Landry:
Why does the correction i provide are always undone so fast? You ought to disable the auto-song statisticing feature as soon as i'm through with any band
Do what you feel, but do something! Anything, i want all the different interpretations joined tomorrow.
I have to doublecheck your wishes, because you provide too many wrong (or only almost correct) informations and I don't want to do edits based on guesses or without research.
No post will be forgotten, but you can't set deadlines. Maybe you don't know, but setlist.fm is not a company where moderators are employed and get their wages for doing edits.
You're here for three months now, but believe me, quality of datas has improved that much in the last few years and we are still in a long process to beeing perfect.

@Philippe Landry:
Okay, the song Love of the Loved, by Cilla Black. Issued as a single first and then on the compilation
is there a wrong cover tag on any setlist ? Please post a link to that if it has to be changed.

@PhilippeLandry
And there was also the song How Great Thou Art who is wrongfully credited to Elvis Presley
it is definetely not an Elvis original, but I didn't change that so far, because this is another song where it's unclear who did the first recording.
secondhandsongs states Jimmie Davis is the first recording, but it seems the stated year is not correct, it should be 1962 rather than 1952. The first major success in the english version should be from artist Bill Carle, but it is not sure he was the first to release.
Anyway this is an old swedish song (1885), so I think there are hundreds of other versions before even that.
If more information is available the cover tag can be set.

@Philippe Landry:
Paul Heatons had written a song called Little Red Rooster which had nothing to do with Howlin' Wolf's original.
Yes, that's what I told you after you changed them to Howlin' Wolf so please do change them back. There are only 13 setlists, so you can do that without a batch edit.

About the NOFX song, What Now My Love? and what Now Herb? are the same song. You can see in the covers that the song was first issued by Gilbert Bécaud and that's right, that song is Gilbert Bécaud cover.
NOFX first issued it as What Now Herb? and later on an official live record as What Now My Love? It is most commonly known as What Now Herb? but in several cases, they definitely play it as What Now My Love?

There is further information on How Great Thou Art on wikipedia:

Is this an actual song?
http://www.setlist.fm/stats/songs/the-rolling-stones-bd6ad22.html?song=Blues+by+Six
Blues By Six was the name of a blues band that featured Charlie Watts on drums. That band was a regular at the Marquee Club at that time?
http://www.themarqueeclub.net/1963
This Fats Domino cover was first featured of Fats Domino album THE FABULOUS MR. D.

I don't agree with your square brackets for traditional but i want all the different interpretations of a song grouped together.
