Cher is an icon, and at 72 years young, this pop diva is still a figure head in the music community. She is currently on her Here We Go Again Tour, which officially kicked off at Hertz Arena (Germain Arena) in Ft. Myers, Florida Thursday night, January 17. The exciting trek will continue for 29 more dates, heading across the country. This is the first extended tour in five years for the musical legend and is expected to have a setlist packed full of songs from her ABBA tribute album, released last September, as well as hits throughout her career.
As the start to what is sure to be an epic musical experience, the show included a performance with special guests Nile Rodgers & Chic, who released their first album in 25 years last September—and showcased a number of outfits only the “Dancing Queen” herself could pull off. In true Cher fashion, she descended onto the stage from a platform that had been raised perhaps 30 feet off the stage, wearing black-and-gold showgirl regalia and sporting a mane comprised of wavy orange hair.
Within a short span, she changed into an Indian sari and veil for "All or Nothing," riding in on a mechanized pachyderm with lighted tusks. Her costume changes continued along with her catalog of hits that included tunes with her days with Sonny, "Little Man," "All I Ever Need Is You," "The Beat Goes On" and "I Got You, Babe."
Cher chatted with the audience throughout the night, sharing tidbits about her life as a musician and actress, joked about "owing the government $278,000, like you do," even offered her age, which no one can believe considering she looks just as young and vibrant as ever.
"I've never been accepted by singers as a singer, and actors don't think I'm an actor."
She treated the audience to other hits such as "After All," "Woman's World," "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me," a simmering "Welcome to Burlesque," "The Shoop Shoop Song" and a version of "Walking in Memphis." To close the show, she ended the night with arguably her biggest hit, "Believe." For those in attendance, it was surly a night to remember and can only get better!
