Papa Roach "Who Do You Trust?" Album Review

Throughout a career spanning two decades, Papa Roach has always aimed to keep their sound fresh, incorporating elements from all different genres into their music. Their tenth studio album Who Do You Trust? is no different.
Who Do You Trust?, the follow up to last year's Crooked Teeth, finds a balance between pop and rock, veering away from the band's more traditional alt-rock sound and exploring a wide-range of influences.
Opening with what's referred to as the beginning of the end, "The Ending," Papa Roach transcends through various genres and themes in the album's 12 tracks.
"Our goal for our tenth album was to push ourselves even further into genres that inspire us most," bassist Tobin Esperance said.
"We have reached the place where we always wanted to be, creating new and exciting music."
Songs like "Feels Like Home" stick to the band's roots, with vocalist Jacoby Shaddix taking an introspective look at a past relationship that's seemingly crumbled.
"Elevate" and "Top of the World" are pretty rap-heavy, but the latter closes out with Shaddix's familiar vocal cries.
There's an obvious pop influence in songs like "Not the Only One" and "Come Around." Although a major theme throughout the album is trust issues, these two songs air on the lighter side, with "Not the Only One" mixing bits of acoustic guitar and a poppy chorus to send an uplifting message to listeners:
"If you feel alone when you're down/ Just know you're not the only one."
"Come Around," too, suggests to listeners that they have a shoulder to lean on:
"It's never easy when you're breaking down/ But I'll be there when you come around."
The album's title track and "Renegade Music," both released previously as singles, serve as a call to arms, asking listeners to try to "take your life back" and push things to a "new level."

"I Suffer Well" serves as a fierce, fresh flash of punk rage, clocking in at one minute and 21 seconds. It precedes "Maniac," my personal favorite on the album.

"Better Than Life" bookends the album, with Shaddix emphasizing the importance of meaningful relationships in one's life in a guitar-heavy. Papa Roach closes out the album the same way it started, proving again that they're not afraid to take risks to "feel better than life."
Papa Roach is celebrating the release of the album with a "Goin' Back to Cali Tour" kicking off TONIGHT, followed by a joint tour with Shinedown and Asking Alexandra, and a UK tour kicking off in April. Songs off the new release that have already been performed include:
