Who is Mom Jeans.?

Attention music nerds who are attached to the sounds of the Promise Ring, Joan of Arc and American Football - Its time you add Mom Jeans. into your musical pallet.

The early aughts have a special place for rock bands who where constantly blurring lines between all these sub-genres. Insert Mom Jeans. Their debut album Best Buds came out in 2016 via Counter Intuitive Records, and they just released the follow up, Puppy Love, last year.

With song titles like "Scott Pilgrim V. My Gpa" and "*Sobs Quietly*," it's obvious that their music is for a very specific type of person. Me. And probably you too! On a serious (or not so serious) note though, they have some very crafty songs titles like "Jon bong Jovi," their songs are even craftier.

The vocals and lyrics carry a great deal of emotion (dare I say, Emo?) and the guitar heavy tunes mimic the feels just the same.

"Watching movies and drinking chocolate milk alone/ I guess it's my anti-social tendencies that keep me from my friends"

It's this kind of diaristic style of musicianship that makes it easy to fall in love with Mom Jeans. It's on par with the alt indie rock legends before them, which gave listeners an outlet to unapologetically feel melancholic while simultaneously feeling better about it because SOMEONE understands.

With the release of their sophomore album, Mom Jeans. are now going from playing basements and warehouses to performing in legitimate venues. Their fan following is growing by the minute, with over 20k people following them on Twitter for that quality word vomit content that is just as lovable as their lyrics. See what I mean below:

The best thing about Mom Jeans. is that they don't care about trends in music, or about impressing anyone, so you'll never hear anything that even breaches being "try-hard" in their albums. Frontman Eric Butler doesn't even consider themselves as "emo." In an interview, he noted:

"I just like to think that we’re a rock band. My parents ask me what kind of music we play and I just say rock music. At the end of the day I feel like that’s the only thing that encapsulates everything that we have done and want to do in the future. Pretty much everything is rock and roll and I like not feeling that we have to play a certain way or that we have to be a certain style to be taken seriously. I don’t think that’s us and we’re not alone in that, I think everybody is feeling that right now. Everybody’s really tired of that, especially non-male musicians or musicians of color are tired of being pigeon-holed into whatever genre people are telling them they are just because they sound a certain way or look a certain way."

The quartet will embark on a U.S. Spring tour, kicking off March 12th in Santa Cruz, California and wrapping up April 13th in Portland. Check out the full dates on their website!
