On Dave Grohl's Birthday in 2000, Foo Fighters Play 18-Song Set!

Our boy Dave Grohl turns 51 today! The Foo Fighters frontman has had one helluva musical career, starting out as the drummer of Nirvana and then fronting his own band and taking them to the top with Foo.
In honor of the multi-talented musician's BDAY, we're looking back at a gig Foo played on this day in 2000 when he turned 31-years-old at The Palace in Los Angeles - the peak of FF's career. They were on a massive tour in support of their third studio album release, 1999's There is Nothing Left to Lose, home to major hit "Learn to Fly" and other beloved tracks like "Stacked Actors," "Breakout," "Generator" and "Next Year."
But this particular gig was a one-off benefit show for the Alive & Well AIDS Alternatives foundation - so noble of Dave to give on his day of birth! Accompanying Grohl on the stage that era was Nate Mendel on Bass, Taylor Hawkins on Drums (newbie at the time), and Chris Shiflett on guitar.
Another reason why this show was special, to add to the list, was that it was their first show of the millennium and happened a week before the Australian leg of their tour. The setlist was a bit smaller than their typical shows, clocking in at 18-songs. Still quite a hefty set, though!
They fired off the night with album opener "Stacked Actors" and weaved in deep cuts like "My Poor Brain," "For All the Cows," "Ain't It the Life," "Aurora," alongside hits like "Learn to Fly," "My Hero," "Monkey Wrench," and "Everlong."
They included a three-song encore that opened up with a live debut of a cover of "Have a Cigar" by Pink Floyd, which saw Hawkins on vocals and Grohl on drums! FF continued to include that cover on the rest of the tour, playing it 31 times total in 2000. They haven't brought it back since.
The night ended on two fan favorites, "New Way Home" and "This is a Call." Check out the entire setlist below!

Today is also special because FF are celebrating 25 years as a band! And they've teased something special for 2020, so stay tuned!
