AWOLNATION Kicks Off North American Tour

Alt-rock band AWOLNATION just released their third studio album, Here Come the Runts on February. 2. In support of this new album, the band kicked off their North American tour Saturday at Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre. Lead Singer Aaron Bruno spoke to Billboard about the album, saying “it's superior to anything I've come close to making before.” The show was the first of two sold out back-to-back nights.
Nothing But Thieves opened up the show with a 30-minute set and performed songs from their sophomore album, Broken Machine. After that, AWOLNATION took the stage and Aaron came out wearing a snazzy jumpsuit, reading “The Runts” on the back. The band performed a 75-minute set that opened with “Here Come the Runts.” The show included six new tracks from the new album, one resurrected song and a three song encore.
New songs performed include “Here Come the Runts,” “Passion,” and “Seven Sticks of Dynamite.” The group resurrected “Guilty Filthy Soul” from their debut album Megalithic Symphony. This is the first time since 2014 that they have performed the song live. The song has been played a total of 115 since 2010.
Of course, AWOLNATION ended the show with their mega-hit “Sail.” The smash-hit went 6x platinum in the U.S. and peaked at number 17 on the Billboard 200. What a way to end the show!
Aaron hopes that this all natural music is healthy for peoples’ ears and hearts. “It’s like a non-GMO record. There’s no fake shit on there, none of the vocals are tuned, which I can’t say that about many songs I hear. It’s all real playing."
The tour continues tonight at the Fillmore in Detroit. Tickets are still available for tonight’s show and the rest of the North American dates through Live Nation. Every online ticket order includes one physical copy of Here Come the Runts.
