Kelsea Ballerini live-debuted her bitter new tune "Penthouse" this week in Manchester, England at the O2 Ritz.
"Penthouse" is off the 29-year-old country star's dark breakup EP Rolling Up the Welcome Mat, which (sarcastically?) dropped this Valentine's day.
Ballerini had been married to Australian singer/songwriter Morgan Evans from 2017 through 2022 when they divorced.
In a long, detailed interview on the Call Me Daddy podcast, Ballerini said she never really wanted to get hitched or have a wedding but went through it anyway and eventually grew fonder of her beau, but that love did not grow in unison.
"I think he loved me more at 23, and I loved him more at 29," she said.
"Penthouse" is far more graphic, detailed, and sadly poetic.
It hurts putting shit in a box
And now we don’t talk
And it stings rolling up the welcome mat
Knowing you got half
The song is also a bit prophetic as just days ago, Ballerini's new alleged love interest, actor Chase Stokes posted a sweet photo on his IG story of the pair cuddling.
I kissed someone new last night
But now I don’t know where you’re sleeping, baby.
How biting is the singer's EP? When it was released, Variety's headline blared: "Kelsea Ballerini Delivers Country Music’s Most Single-Minded D-I-V-O-R-C-E Record Ever."
Kelsea has a couple more shows in the UK before heading back to North America where she will be touring all over the US as both a headliner in theaters and as the opening act for Kenny Chesney in arenas. Grab your tickets here.
