Olivia Rodrigo Kicks Off Massive Guts Tour in Palm Springs, CA

Gather around, friends, the modern queen of pop-rock ballads has officially begun her latest trek! Olivia Rodrigo launched the much-anticipated Guts tour on February 23rd in Palm Springs, CA, and it was just as extraordinary as you’d expect. The multiplatinum singer worked through a 22-song setlist that included two live debuts, nonstop extended intros and outros, and more TikTok-worthy moments than we can count.

Clad in a glittering two-piece ensemble, the newly 21-year-old songstress started the night with “bad idea, right?” You know, the lead single off her latest album that publications like Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and The New York Times called the best song of 2023. But let’s be honest…with a near-perfect sophomore effort like Guts, it’s difficult to pick a favorite song! As Rodrigo belted out more new tracks like “ballad of a homeschooled girl,” “vampire,” “teenage dream” and “pretty isn’t pretty,” the entire arena erupted with the sounds of awe and enlightenment.

It’s no secret that Rodrigo is wise beyond her years, singing about everything from social anxiety and bad breakups to the struggles of womanhood in a modern world. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the audience spanned nearly every age group. From young girls who look up to Rodrigo to those her own age and millennials who grew up on Paramore, Alanis Morissette, and Lana Del Rey just like the singer herself, she lit a fire in the entire 11,000-person crowd with every song.

Speaking of which, those hoping to hear favorites from her debut album, 2021’s Sour, definitely won’t be disappointed. She performed “driver’s license,” “traitor,” “deja vu,” “jealousy, jealousy,” and more with just as much exhilaration as you would expect! And with the special effects sprinkled throughout the show, including Rodrigo singing “enough for you” on a floating moon over the crowd, everyone was treated to incredible music and onstage magic.

As the night went on, Rodrigo switched between albums, and glittering costumes, like a boss… continuing to prove that she’s the pop star of our generation. Her powerful voice and ability to switch between pop, grunge, punk, folk and more genres has made her an icon to many. And her talent was in full force during live debuts of Guts favorites like “logical” and “obsessed,” plus more standout songs like “the grudge,” “favorite crime,” and “brutal.”

Rodrigo technically finalized the show with “all-american bitch,” a killer anthem about the impossible standards faced by women and girls. Talk about ending on a high note! Of course, the crowd knew that she couldn’t leave them without a couple more iconic songs, and they were 100% correct. She emerged from backstage with a smile on her face and joy in her heart, paying tribute to both of her albums with pride.

The first song of the encore? None other than “Good 4 U,” the upbeat anthem that helped Olivia Rodrigo rise to meteoric fame just a couple of years ago. Would it really be a concert of hers if she didn’t have the crowd pumping their fists to this bop? But finally, the bittersweet moment arrived when it was time for her very last song…”get him back!” Everyone was on their feet for this grand finale, creating a full-circle moment that’s both a nod to the present and the good times ahead. This is just the beginning of the biggest Olivia Rodrigo tour yet, and the pop superstar can’t wait to see you in the crowd.
