Conan Gray Live Debuts "The Best" at Wishbone World Tour Kickoff

Conan Gray, the YouTube phenom turned legitimate pop star kicked off his second arena tour at the Target Center in Minneapolis where he treated the opening night fans on Thursday (2/19) to an unreleased live debut.

Supporting his latest album, Wishbone, and dressed like a snazzy sailor, the 27-year-old Sagittarius originally from Lemon Grove, California, doled out a variety of songs from his ever-growing catalogue, but the vast majority of material was culled from the latest offering.

Ten tracks of the 21 tunes in the set came off Wishbone, which dropped last August and debuted at #3 on Billboard's Top 200 chart. It went to #1 on the Vinyl and Album Sales charts.

Despite that great start, if YouTube views are any measure, it feels like his fans, affectionately called Coneheads, aren't as crazy for this album as they were for his previous efforts.

The handsome performer has one video with over 200 million views, two others over 100 million, and 18 over 10 million. Only two of the videos he has for Wishbone went over 5 million views.

The Coneheads, though, not only came out in full force in Minnesota, they dressed in their own version of his maritime style, making an already adorable scene that much sweeter.

KISS may have an Army, BTS & Rihanna have their Navy, but gotta hand it to Conan's fans for actually dressing on brand for the tour.

Also props to Conan for live debuting the unreleased song, "The Best" right in the middle of the show.

Making half of the set about the new album is risky enough, but it says a lot about the great relationship one has with their fans to add an additional tune to that heap when you have several older albums and an EP to pull from.

Another cool thing Conan did was he brought out an actual wishbone and chose a fan to break it with him.

One one side of the bone was one song, on the other was a different tune. Whichever side was the longest, he played. On Thursday the longer part of the bone was "Lookalike" from that EP. See, he got to it.

Earlier in the set he also did an acoustic "surprise song" ala Ms. Taylor Swift. Something a little special that might not perfectly fit the vibe of the set every night, but sure sounds great in small doses.

At the Target Center he played "The Story" from his Kid Krow album to great delight.

Another very cool thing he did, since he was in Minnesota which has been the hot spot for a lot of immigration drama as well as activism from rockers like Bruce Springsteen and Tom Morello: he gave all the sales of his concert shirt sales to the Minnesota Immigrants Rights Action Committee.

"@miracmm is doing important work defending the rights of all immigrants here in MN," Gray wrote on his IG story.

Conan now heads over to the Garden in Boston, then along the east coast turning at Florida to Texas then Arizona and wrapping up his US leg at the Forum in LA.
