Goose & Geese Have More In Common Than They Should

Now that Geese have made their Saturday Night Live debut, inspiring some music fans to agree with the likes of Jack Black that they're the next big thing, or siding with others who think they're the worst band in years, some are asking, "wait, you mean Goose?"

No. But today we mean both.

Let's try to clear up any misunderstanding between Goose, a quintet from Connecticut comprised of groovy millennials born in the early '90s; and Geese, a quintet from New York City made up of Gen Z cool kids.

First the basics:

Goose and Geese are both from the East Coast, have deep and fast-growing catalogs, are not afraid of wearing their influences on their sleeves to the point they are often accused of being derivative.

They share the odd similarity that of the most popular videos on their YouTube channel, they each have covers of much bigger bands.

Goose's most popular video is their cover of the Bruce Hornsby banger "The Way It Is (feat. Bruce Hornsby)" from 2023. (1.9 million views)

While Geese's third-most popular video is their heartfelt take on Justin Bieber's "Baby." It's from early '24. (704k views)

2025 offerings

They both released albums in 2025 with slightly disturbing titles.

Goose released two LPs last year, the second was dubbed Chain Yer Dragon (2025). Four disembodied hands are on the cover, one flipping us off, one giving the peace sign, a third hitchhiking, and one rudely pointing.

Geese dropped their fourth studio album last September produced by Kenny Beats (03 Geedo, IDLES, Vince Staples) and named it Getting Killed.

You will recognize it as the one where someone is holding a pistol at the camera while playing a horn while the sun shines straight at us.

Best Damn Compliments

Trey Anastasio on Goose

“I’m always excited about the bands that are writing a lot of their own music. Goose, go Goose,” Trey said in 2022 on SiriusXM's Phish Radio.

“I have so much faith in, like, post-pandemic music by people in their 20s. I think they’re gonna take it now and own their era and go forth."

Nick Cave on Geese:

I put my earphones in and played Geese’s new album, Getting Killed.

The first song ["Trinidad"] starts with Cameron Winter singing, in his lovely, plaintive way –“I try/ I try/ I try so hard”– and I feel those simple words down to my soul, because we all try, because we all try so hard, and when the band kicks into the chorus – I mean, my God, those drums – and Cameron Winter screams, again and again –“There’s a bomb in my car! There’s a bomb in my car!”– all worry is laid to waste.

The endorphins rushing wild from the freezing water, the music pounding through my body, the caffeine, the fucking ducks and the God-roiling sky – no what-ifs, no yeah-buts, no what-abouts, no caveats, at all. I am made happy, and that happiness is entire and incontestable. And all the way home, I go—to my beautiful waking wife – on this, the best day ever.

Sweet Guitars

Of the guitars in Geese, perhaps the most interesting one is the seafoam green Gretch Electromatic Double Jet. It looks cool, sounds good, and only cost $420.

Rick Mitarotonda of Goose, however, isn't messing around. He's been rocking the PRS Hollowbody II Piezo for a while.

Don't look too close or you'll fall in love, which will set you back $1,700 smackers for that bad boy.

Road dogs in 2026

Both groups will be packing arenas, stadiums, and theaters for a good chunk of the year.

Goose is packing them in at famous places like Red Rocks, The Greek in LA, and a pair of dates at Madison Square Garden. Get your tix on the Goose website.

Do geese fly south for the winter? Is that why Geese is rocking Honolulu tomorrow? That's really their first stop of a run that's going take them around the world a couple of times this year while hitting up Coachella right in the middle.
