Single Release: The Damned

There’s no rest for The Damned. Earlier this year, the Brits announced a new album, Evil Spirits, their first full-length studio album in 10 years. They’ll be embarking on a Euro tour following the album release on April 13th, but the band has already teased us with three tasty singles, two of which were released earlier this week.

The first single the punk-rock legends lured us with was “Standing on The Edge Of Tomorrow,” a smooth hi-fi hit with retro-space vibes that has already been performed live 13 times. The two newest tracks they’ve unleashed are “Look Left” and “Devil In Disguise.” The latter has also been banged out 13 times at their live shows. Both these songs were written by drummer Pinch who joined the group in 1999.

These songs are true punk ballads with themes of society’s “media-induced coma,” and are translated live with a relentless energy that boasts a fitting new direction for the band. The singles are available for download/stream on Spotify. On “Devil In Disguise,” Pinch explains that "people gravitate towards blaming individuals rather than the systems they are part of. Figureheads are only puppets. It's the puppet masters we should be concerned about. The enemy of our enemy is our friend, apparently."

The new album has a more hi-fi production feel to it than prior ones, but still embodies a raw punk energy that is reminiscent of '80s-era Damned.

You can catch them play these new songs (and more?!) at one of their upcoming shows this year. They've also performed the song "Evil Spirits" live already, which has not officially been released yet. Between their string of headlining tours, they will support Hollywood Vampires (Joe Perry, Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp) for four dates in the UK. They will also play as the main support at two festivals this year, Belsonic Festival in Belfast on August 25, and Burger Boogaloo in Oakland, California on July 1st.
