Crowded House Wrap "To The Island" NZ 2021 Tour

Aussie rockers Crowded House just wrapped a 12-date New Zealand tour. It feels refreshing to be writing about a series of actual, audience-full concerts - but that isn't the only thing of note about these string of dates. The March 10th kickoff date was their first live performance since 2016 and during the tour they live debuted their newest material in more than a decade. Let's take a look at some of the tour's highlights.
The first night of the tour featured a 22-song setlist and the live debut of "Playing with Fire," a track off Crowded House's upcoming 7th studio album, Dreamers are Waiting. Album singles "Whatever You Want" and "To The Island" got their first in-person audience debut, their live debuts from Roundhead Studios in Auckland last month had been live streamed as part of a single release special. Other highlights of the set included a dedication of their most-performed song to date, "Don't Dream It's Over" to the recently passed music mogul Michael Gudinski and a cover of David Bowie's "Heroes" during the 3-song encore. "Sweet Tooth" saw its live debut on the third night of To The Island tour, the same night the band resurrected Split Enz cover "I Got You" for the closing song, the first time played since 2011. See that setlist here.
On the March 23rd Hamilton date, CH threw "Don't Stop Now" into the mix. They extended the encore by two songs, adding in Elvis Presley's "Love Me Tender" and "Into Temptation" (per audience request via paper plane, the setlist notes).
The final night of the NZ tour on Sunday, March 28th featured the live debut of "Start of Something." Read Simon Sweetman's review of the tour wrap here.
