Midnight Oil Bring Live Shows Back with "The Makarrata Project"

Music lovers and deprived show-goers are looking longingly at Australia these days, as the land down under has safely resumed live events. First there was King Gizzard in Melbourne, and now we have rock band Midnight Oil tearing up Sydney - with more tour dates to come this month!

The band's first show of 2021 was an intimate affair - just people 120 in attendance - and they performed under the moniker "Blue Meanies." The pre warm-up gig at Oxford Art Factory posed a 19-song setlist, a career-sampling set with songs off 8 of their 12 studio albums as well as the Species Deceases EP. Read a review of that show here. See the full setlist:

The second night at OAF, on February 23rd, MO opened their set with the live debut of "Gadigal Land," the band's first single in 17 years, released in the summer of 2020. Peep that setlist:

Midnight Oil's show on February 25 was a bit more of a big deal - the set included all 7 songs from their themed mini-album The Makarrata Project, and many of the band's indigenous collaborators joined them onstage for the first time. The band also noted it was their return to the recently restored Enmore Theatre in Sydney, a venue they first played 35 years ago.

Although the band is thrilled to be ushering in a new era of live music, the shows are not without purpose. Read about The Makarrata Project here.

Midnight Oil's next show is Friday, March 6 in Adelaide. More dates and details on the band's official website.
