Lady Gaga Live Debuts Two Mayhem Tracks on SNL

Lady Gaga live debuted a pair of songs from new album, Mayhem, "Abacradaba" and "Killah" on Saturday Night Live.

Technically the live debuts happened during the 8pm dress rehearsal exclusively in front of the live audience, and not at the 11:30pm live broadcast that everyone sees.

Maybe one day SNL will release that footage too.

Gaga was both the host and musical guest, which couldn't be better publicity for the album, her 7th, which dropped earlier in the week.

She's also been on everyone's radar this year with her appearance last month on SNL's Homecoming Concert and at the FireAid benefit in January.

Despite Mayhem containing the soaringly romantic Grammy-winning duet with Bruno Mars "Die with a Smile," the rest of the album is nothing like that.

It's pop, just harder. Which apparently is what her fiancé and co-producer, Michael Polansky, has inspired her to do.

The live debuts were seen by the lucky few

“He was like, ‘Babe. I love you. You need to make pop music,’” Gaga told Vogue. in their September Issue.

"Like anyone would do for the person they love, I encouraged her to lean into the joy of it,” he told the magazine. “On the Chromatica Tour, I saw a fire in her; I wanted to help her keep that alive all the time and just start making music that made her happy.”

The world is stuck with the live almost-debuts

"Abracadabra," is a song that got a huge boost when Mastercard sponsored five minutes of time during the Grammys to air the entire video for the single. That video now has over 74 million YouTube views.

On SNL she delivered a different, yet just as trippy, dance performance in a claustrophobic geometric space. The music mixed between old Gaga and something modern but with an '80s aftertaste.

"Killah" sounded like a radio dial stuck between David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails.

But visually we see Mother Monster after she and her dancers rummaged through the Teletubbies' closet, being set free to roam around the empty halls of 30 Rock and Studio 8H.

The same haters who said she stole from Madonna on her first record may claim the same about "Fame" on this one.

A week from today, Lady Gaga will be honored with the Innovator Award at the iHeart Radio Music Awards.

"Few artists in modern history have taken creative risks with the level of success of Gaga," iHeart wrote when they announced she would be receiving the award. "One of the best-selling musicians of all time, she is the true definition of a modern day artist innovator."

Lord Gaga made his national TV debut during Weekend Update after she performed "Abracadabra."

Lady Gaga will be the Friday nights headliner at Coachella next month. Tickets available on Lady Gaga's website.

In May, Gaga will be very busy. First she will be giving a free concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio. You may remember Madonna performed there last may to 1.6 million Brazilians.

"It's a great honor to be asked to sing for Rio--for my whole career the fans in Brazil have been part of the lifeblood of the little monsters," she tweeted. "I've been dying to come perform for you for years and was heartbroken when I had to cancel years ago because I was hospitalized. Your understanding that I needed that time to heal meant the world to me."

It will be her first time back to Brazil since the Born This Way Ball sold out three nights there in 2012.

Soon after Brazil, Gaga returns to Singapore with four stadium shows. It will also be her first shows in The Lion City since 2012.

The giant gigs at the National Stadium just one degree above the equator happen May 18, 19, 21, and 24. Tickets available on Lady Gaga's website.
