Mumford & Sons is Joined By Hozier on SNL

Mumford & Sons returned back to Studio 8H on Saturday (2/28), where they accepted the duties as the musical guest on SNL while on the last stop of the Prizefighter Promo Tour.

Introduced by Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie (and later his co-star Hudson Williams), the British folk-rock group played two-and-a-half songs, the half being a snippet of the Zaret and North classic they performed in a skit.

But it was the guests that joined the group that really made things exciting this weekend.

Before heading out on a proper tour, Mumford & Sons, first embarked on the Prizefighter Promo Tour, which began when they recorded a live session at Maida Vale Studios in London (2/10), for a BBC radio performance.

They then hopped the pond to headline the Innings Fest in Tempe, AZ (2/20), followed by two gigs in Brooklyn - first at the Music Hall of Williamsburg (2/24) and an early set at Skylight at The Refinery (2/24).

That gave them a few days to enjoy NYC and put together a performance on the legendary show that would spike the football on their promo tour.

Having Hozier join them along with the National's Aaron Dessner on "Rubber Band Man" and then Sierra Ferrell also with Dessner was a double spike, if such a thing exists.

Marcus Mumford (lead vocals, guitar, drums), Ben Lovett (keyboards, vocals) and Ted Dwane (bass, vocals) were backed by Matt Menefee (banjo), Ryan Richter (guitar), James McAlister (drums), Darius Christian (keyboards), Lessie Conner (vocals), Kyle Resnick (trumpet) and Rob Moose (strings) for the big show.

"Rubber Band Man" is a song Hozier is featured on off the trio's new album, Prizefighter. The official music video is just four months old but already has 2.5 million views.

The SNL appearance was not the first time Hozier and the trio rocked the tune on TV, late last year they played it on the Graham Norton Show.

One would think the live rendition would please the people greatly, yet only 633k have checked it out.

After the skit with "Unchained Melody," the third time Mumford & Sons took to the stage was for "Here."

On Prizefighter, the song has Chris Stapleton as the featured guest but at 30 Rock on Saturday the nation was treated by the up and coming star Ferrell helping out the fellas.

The quirky multi-instrumentalist mixes bluegrass with Americana and fits in as easily alongside Mumford & Sons as she would Billy Strings.

And on "Here" she added the much needed woman's touch that would have otherwise been a sausage party with oh so many bros on stage.

Neither Hozier nor Mumford should lose her number any time soon. They should both collab with her in the very near future.
