Weezer are heading back out this fall with a 32-date North American run they’re calling “The Gathering,” kicking off September 8 in Sacramento and wrapping October 24 in Los Angeles. The Shins and Silversun Pickups are joining along the way, which already gives you a pretty clear sense of the crowd this is built for.
Millennials? Obviously. But more than that, it’s a run that celebrates where they came from. If it wasn’t obvious from songs like “Beverly Hills” and Buddy Holly, the group has long admired their hometown of Los Angeles. And now, they’re proving it with a full blown “Initiation Week” takeover before the Weezer tour officially commences.
From trivia night at Barney’s Beanery to a pickleball tournament with the band and more (which you can see here), it feels like a very ‘Weezer’ thing to do. And if these activities weren’t exciting enough, the band will also release a brand new song on April 1st (not a joke!) off their as-yet-untitled new record.
After coming off a heavy nostalgia cycle that included the 30th anniversary of their debut album, Weezer is ready to put their music out into the world. It’s been a full five years since their last record, 2021’s Van Weezer, and they’re intent on showing us they’ve “still got it” while also serving up the memories we all love.
This means a setlist that includes the classics — “Island in the Sun,” “Say It Ain’t So,” and “Buddy Holly” — alongside a live debut, or two. These nerdy kings have been a force to be reckoned with for over three decades now, selling over 35 million records worldwide and establishing themselves as one of the best rock bands around.
Now, they’re back to share new music, own the stage, and play a bit of pickleball in the process. And we can’t wait to be part of it. Tickets for ‘Weezer: The Gathering Tour’ go on sale to the general public on Friday, April 3, with the full date list below.
