If you've heard anything about My Bloody Valentine it's usually that their live shows will make your ears bleed and it will be the best experience of your life. Yes, that statement scared me too, before I saw them play during their 2013 reunion, but the consensus was right. The Irish shoegazers haven't played since that tour, but after many whispers of a comeback, the rumors are finally confirmed, MBV is back this year to play some dates and possibly put out new music. In March, frontman Kevin Shields said the band has plans to release a "sprawling EP" adding: “I’m gonna do a couple of them before I do an album.”
In 2013 the band put out their third studio album m b v, which is an incredible record, due in part that half of it was recorded before the band's split back in 1997. Since that reunion, their cult following of shoegaze heads have been anxiously awaiting their return. Even with the recent shoegaze revival, they're still the only band that can put on a insanely loud, spellbinding show that creates noise similar to a million vacuums hooked up to dozens of large amps, and have it sound blissful. That sentiment won't make sense unless you've seen them play, and now you have that chance because they've added a handful of dates across the US amid some festival appearances.
Their first gig will be in London at The Cure curated Royal Festival Hall on June 23rd. Their first US date will be on July 17th in Seattle, Washington, and after trekking across the states they'll end in New York City on August 1. The dates are sparse but with the promise of new music, we hope that MBV will be adding more dates soon.
