Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo Plays Solo Show and Covers Green Day + Smashing Pumpkins

A month after the release of Rivers Cuomo’s new single “Medicine for Melancholy,” he performed his first solo show on the 10th at Beat Kitchen in Chicago. The show marks his first solo show since 2011. Just a man and his guitar with a room full of fans.
Rivers opened up the show with a cover “Can’t Fight This Feeling,” by REO Speedwagon. He then proceeded to cover classic Weezer hits like “Say It Ain’t So,” “Pink Triangle,” “Buddy Holly,” “Island in the Sun” and more. Rivers also live debuted “(Girl We Got A) Good Thing” from Weezer's tenth studio album White Album.
Other covers that River’s performed include: “Today” and “1979” from Smashing Pumpkins. Green Day’s “When I Come Around,” and “Basket Case.” According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Rivers told the audience, “Both the Billies are so awesome.”
After Rivers performed “Magic” by B.O.B, he live debuted "Medicine for Melancholy." After TWO encores, he ended the show with “You Gave Your Love To Me Softly" off of Weezer's Pinkerton.
