Taking Back Sunday have been on the road for their 20th anniversary tour throughout 2019. With support from Frank Iero and the Future Violents, the band have performed two nights in a row in North American cities. Back-to-back dates in the same city gives fans a chance to hear the group's debut album Tell All Your Friends in full, and additionally see either their second studio album Where You Want to Be or third studio album Louder Now. Taking Back Sunday determine the fate of their setlist with an on-stage coin toss.
I was lucky enough to witness the Long Island rock band at night one of their two night performances at the Palladium in Los Angeles. As someone who gives full credit to Taking Back Sunday for creating music that is essentially the soundtrack to my youth, being at their show last night with other energetic fans, and witnessing their beautifully curated production, it was impossible not to get completely lost in the band's music all over again.
Last night, which consisted of one big sing-along and countless mic swinging by frontman Adam Lazzarra, kicked off with Tell All Your Friends. When it was time to toss the coin determining whether Where You Want To Be or Louder Now would be performed in full, the band brought out their friend and professional wrestler Seth Rollins. The coin fittingly landed on Where You Want To Be- because this is exactly where music fans seeking a sense of community wanted to be. After performing the album in its entirety, the set wrapped up with a 3-track encore of "You Can't Look Back," "All Ready to Go," and "MakeDamnSure."
