The Church Continue to Celebrate 30 Years of "Starfish" with Tour

If you claim to love post-rock, then there's a good chance you've spent a lot of time day-dreaming in your room to '80s hit song "Under the Milky Way" by Australian rock outfit The Church. It's been 30 years since that breakout album, Starfish, was released, yet each track remains timeless and continues to be discovered by younger generations. The album was the band's 5th full length release and it dropped February 1988.
A tour in celebration of the album's anniversary couldn't have come at a better time. The Church kicked off the second leg of their North American tour last night, April 11th, in Ferndale, Michigan at the Magic Bag with a generous setlist that was divided between two sets. The first set saw the four-piece performing Starfish it in its entirety, and in tracking order.
“Music is like inner space and we’re astronauts. It’s a spellbinding thing, it’s hypnotizing. That’s why people like it. It takes them into another world and we’re here to open those doors." - Guitarist Petter Koppes said this in a statement and the words rang true through the whole set.
After performing album closer "Hotel Womb," it wasn't even close to the end of the night. The Church lifted off with a second set that featured other hits from their other 24 albums! They started out with 1998's "Anaesthesia" and continue to perform cuts from the '90s and later until the 5th song when they busted out the early deep cut "Constant in Opal."
They ended the second set with 1985's "Tantalised" but the night continued with a three-song encore and officially ended on a newer track - "Miami."
