Happy Birthday Peter Frampton! He Played 9-Song Set This Day 1976

Peter Frampton hit the big 7-0 today. He's been approaching the coming of his septuagenarian years with a farewell tour, which ran through 2019 and was meant to hit Europe and the UK this year, but has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 situation.

The guitar hero's touring career might be winding down, but his epic live shows will undoubtedly go down in history. In honor of of his Birthday, we dug into Frampton's tour archives and found a 9-song set he performed in 1976 on this very day.

1976 was a historical year in the Frampton's life story. He released his international breakthrough live album Frampton Comes Alive! It was voted "Album of the Year" in the Rolling Stone reading polls and it's one of the best selling live albums in the USA.

A few months later and Frampton was supporting the album in huge auditoriums and stadiums. One being on his birthday at the Shrine Auditorium (which is still around today!) in Los Angeles.

The set started with a big warm sing-a-long of "Happy Birthday Peter" - he had just turned 26. Then the rock legend fired off the evening with "All I Wanna Be (Is by Your Side)" off his debut album Wind of Change. He's performed this song over 350 times to date.

He wasted no time weaving in his hit single "Baby, I Love Your Way," which is still a beloved hit, and his third most performed song to date. Other staples that made it into the setlist included Frampton's SECOND most performed song to date - "Show Me the Way."

"Sail Away" off of Somethin's Happenin is the only super deep cut from the setlist. It's been performed around 10 times, and not since 1977. The rest of the songs from that show have remained in Frampton's playbook through the decades.

He ended the night with a song by his former band Humble Pie - "Shine On." Frampton continued to perform this song throughout his career, but it got dropped off his setlists in 2016. He more recently did "Live With Me" in 2019, which was the first time he had performed it without HP.
