Post Malone Played 15 Nirvana Songs on YouTube Livestream

Friday night finally felt somewhat normal thanks to Post Malone's special livestream performance he put on to raise money for the WHO in support of their COVID-19 efforts. The April 24th webcast ended up raising nearly 3 million dollars! Way to go Post! In the livestream, he informed viewers that the money raised would

"ensure patients get the care they need, frontline workers get essential supplies, and accelerate efforts to develop vaccines, tests, and treatments."

Post performed a 15-song setlist filled with Nirvana covers from start to finish, and got help via virtual contributions from Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, bassist Brian Lee, and guitarist Nick Mac. Post also played his Les Paul, proving that this rap singer can SHRED. His vocals also hit those grunge growls to a T. All four performed from different rooms at Post's house in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The set opened up with Post stating "Thank you to the gentlemen who wrote these beautiful songs," before going right into "Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle." The trio worked in some of Nirvana's most staple hits like "Drain You," "Come As You Are," "Heart-Shaped Boxed," "Lithium," and "Breed," along with some beloved, deeper cuts like "Lounge Act," "School," and "Very Ape." Their tribute was all taste with zero cringe, they didn't even do the band's claim to fame track "Smells Like Spirit," and instead focused on Nirvana's other coveted hits.

Other highlights included a special rendition of "Something in the Way," which saw Posty on acoustic guitar and Lee on the Violin. I also loved learning that "Stay Away" is Post's personal favorite, and sharing that he has it tattooed on his face. The session closed on with Nevermind's "In Bloom."

The set received a lot of praise, including kudos from Kurt Cobain's widow Courtney Love, who said "Goosebumps ... Go have a margarita Post Malone. Nothing but love from here," on Instagram. Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic also gave his stamp of approval, tweeting: "I don't think these fellows can play any better. They are on fire!!!!"
