Work From Home: Hinds Talk New Album + More

You didn't think Tour Update would go into hibernation just because we're all quarantining, did you? Artists are being more creative than ever while they're stuck at home, and Setlist.Fm is calling in to see what they're up to in a new edition of Tour Update called "Work From Home."
In our first episode, Ana Garcia Perrote, the vocalist and guitarist of Spanish indie rock band Hinds, called in for an exclusive interview from Spain. Perrote dishes about the status of their upcoming third studio album The Prettiest Curse, and more!
The latest album was meant to drop on April 3rd, but will now be released on June 5th. It features 10 new songs and you can listen to three singles off the LP over on their Spotify.
But first, watch our interview with Perrote in the video below:
Work From Home with Hinds
On a regular day in Quarantine:
"I think it's been 18 days since the government declared in Spain a state of alarm. The last couple of weeks have been pretty busy with Hinds and stuff, because we're still doing a lot of press for the upcoming record and we've been recording some tutorials for our social media or also 'fake live,' where each of us record ourselves from our bedrooms and then have it put all together where it looks like we're playing altogether."
On pushing the new album to June:
"So the state of alarm was announced three Fridays ago, and that same Wednesday we were flying back from London and we had a meeting with our label and we were like, 'Hey this is looking pretty scary in Spain' and everyone was like 'No, no, it'll be fine.' And obviously the day after, in a matter of three days, everything went super fast. For a week or so, we were like 'Well, maybe we can just do a digital release. You know, like, people obviously streaming still, the main thing nowadays, not a lot of people buy records anymore. Let's just try to do that.' And then, that same week, we were deciding a plan B. We realized that all of our shows and tours were gonna have to be postponed. So we're like, 'okay, we're not even going to be able to tour the songs.' So we were really not in the mood for just releasing an album. When we were trying to explain to our label, Steve said something that really stuck in my head. He was like, 'It must be kind of like being at a funeral and yelling, 'It's my birthday!'' You know? And it literally felt that way. We were really attached to this project and this album and stuff so we're like, this is another time for us to do that."
On opening for The Strokes in February:
"It's actually a crazy story because obviously we didn't have any shows in January, February, and March, and we were gonna go on tour in April. So we had those three months to get ready and in early February, Sunday afternoon, our manager sent us a text to the WhatsApp group we have and he was like, 'Hey guys, what are you doing next Tuesday?' It was Sunday, like literally three days ahead and we're like, 'I don't know,' I was like, 'I have class.' You know, just saying what we were going to do, and he was like, 'Oh, because I just got an email from The Strokes and they're offering if you wanna open for them.' And we're like, 'What, The Strokes?!' and we were like, 'Where?' and he's like, 'Yes, apparently there's like three shows. You can join them during that week, so it'd be like, Paris, Belfast, and London.' And we're like, 'Fuck yeah, of course, we'll do it.' We didn't even think about it and like obviously we had two days to realize I didn't even have a case to fly my keyboard. Literally I didn't know how to plug it so you can hear it outside. That's how f*cking not ready we were, but, again, that's really Hinds, just like hey, we have this opportunity, we'll do it and we'll figure it out."
