M83 just played their first concert since 2016, kicking off the Fantasy tour in Arizona with a bang. Are you ready to see the French electronic group play live for the first time in seven years? This monthlong trek will make stops in cities like Nashville, TN, New York, NY, Seattle, WA, and more before wrapping up on May 17th in Oakland, CA.
Despite the lengthy hiatus, Anthony Gonzalez and his bandmates ensured that the comeback M83 concert was worth the wait. They performed 20 songs in total, including quite a few modern hits from their ninth album, 2023’s Fantasy. These include “Oceans Niagara,” “Laura,” and “Earth to Sea.”
“I wanted this record to be very impactful live,” M83 told Consequence of Sound about the new album. “The idea was to come back with something closer to the energy of 2005’s Before the Dawn Heals Us. The combination of guitars and synths is always in my music, but it’s maybe more present on this new record than on the previous ones.” This goal was certainly achieved, with the synthpop choruses, soaring guitars, and infectious lyrics wowing the crowd from one song to another.
M83 also played several older tracks from their two-decade career. The crowd danced along to live performances of “Run Into Flowers,” “Don’t Save Us From the Flames,” and “Gone” for the first time in over a decade! The 4-song encore included the live debut of "Mirror" from the band's 2011 album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming.
M83 is pulling out all the stops and surprising their fans at every show on the Fantasy tour, and you can’t miss out on this electronic extravaganza. See the full setlist here.
