Sum 41 Touring The World For Last Time

Was it sumthing we said?

After 27 years of massive ups and almost fatal lows, the Canadian rockers with giant hits from "Fat Lip" to "In Too Deep" are calling it quits.

Deryck Whibley and his fun-loving bandmates will bidding adieu while on their final world tour titled Tour of the Setting Sum.

Whibley, who is 41+3 years old, has had quite the rock n' roll life. He watched his band evolve in a blink of an eye from being a NOFX cover band to going platinum in both the US and Canada with their debut LP.

He married fellow Canadian, Avril Lavigne when she was just 19 and he was 21.

Avril and Deryck singing the Sum 41 hit "In Too Deep" in 2008 in Japan.

They divorced a few years later. His new wife is a statuesque model and mother of his two children. He's struggled with drugs, alcohol, outrageously long tours, herniated discs as well as liver and kidney damage. Little did we imagine that when they asked does it look infected they meant all of it.

But unlike many, Whibley apparently wants to do whatever it takes to get out alive, thus the final tour, with the the extremely talented opening act The Interrupters.

"Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments in our lives," the band wrote in a statement announcing this tour. "We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in any way. It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you and we wanted you to hear this from us first."

Unlike some others, Sum 41 are going out with a bang, namely a new album that came out a few weeks ago, Heaven :x: Hell. The swan song contains new songs they're sprinkling into their set of favorites.

“The title doesn’t just represent the light and dark sonically of the record — to us that’s been our whole career,” Whibley told Billboard. “It’s been extreme highs and extreme lows and the only way you stick with it is if you love what you’re doing.”

Last week in Nebraska, the super tight quintet live debuted two Heaven :x: Hell tracks at The Astro, "Preparasi a salire" and "Dopamine."

Although it's probably the right thing to do mentally and physically, it's gotta be hard to hang em up while in their early 40s when rockers twice that age are out there still touring. Especially when they are still writing solid new material.

“The entire band, I feel like we’re at the top of our game,” guitarist and keyboardist Tom Thacker said. “It’s almost a shame. I’ve never been in a band that was this tight and this mentally in tune with each other.”

On this tour you can expect to hear them play tunes they haven't played in years, like they did at the tour kickoff in Seoul with the fitting “So Long Goodbye” which they hadn't performed since 2007.

Although they don't pull it out at every show, when they do it's usually in the second encore right before the house lights go up. And it's chilling.

And it's quite all right
And goodbye for now
Just look up to the stars and believe who you are
'Cause it's quite all right
And so long, goodbye

This is it. Get your tickets to the Tour of the Setting Sum on the Sum 41 website.
