Your favorite supergroup is officially on the road! L.S. Dunes kicked off their spring tour on August 8th in Austin, TX, debuting a 15-song setlist that touched the hearts of every ‘elder emo’ in the crowd.
For some, an L.S. Dunes concert may feel like a 2000s Warped Tour fever dream. Featuring Anthony Green from Circa Survive on vocals, My Chemical Romance’s Frank Iero and Travis Stever of Coheed and Cambria on guitar, and Thursday’s Tim Payne and Tucker Rule on bass and drums, respectively, how could it not?
That being said, L.S. Dunes has crafted a sound that defies the boundaries of their OG bands and every other group in the rock scene. With a mix of punk rock, emo, post-hardcore and more, all of which can be heard on their sophomore album, Violet, nobody puts on a show like these hardcore kings. And they more than proved it during the Austin show.
Starting with new songs including “Like Magick” “Fatal Deluxe” before launching into old favorites like “Benadryl Subreddit” and “Bombsquad,” this L.S. Dunes concert began with a bang. Green’s instantly-recognizable voice sounded more flawless than ever, powered by epic high notes and roaring choruses that had everyone in the crowd singing along.
They also performed two live debuts from Violet, which was released in January. Described as a “passion project” for every member that’s helped to “reinvent [L.S. Dunes] with every song they put out,” the first-ever performances of “Holograms” and “You Deserve to Be Haunted” were as impeccable as you’d expect. While certainly reminiscent of early Circa Survive, My Chemical Romance, and Thursday…
These songs still stand on their own in a beautiful way. And it’s no surprise why Violet has received grand reviews left and right since its release several months ago. Even as the night winded down, the applause and energy at this L.S. Dunes concert never ceased. If anything, it was bigger than ever for the two-song encore of “Paper Tigers” and “Forgiveness.”
Not bad for a bunch of 30-something emos out past their bedtime, right? L.S. Dunes still has quite a few shows left on their spring tour, so don’t forget to grab tickets for the following dates! You can check out the full Austin setlist here.
