Jack White Added To Coachella's Saturday Lineup

Coachella attendees will have an added incentive to get some sleep Friday night, because Jack White has been added to the Saturday afternoon lineup, but for weekend one only.

White, the frontman and guitar hero of the White Stripes, and for over the last decade, as a solo artist, was announced as a surprise act on Monday, just a few days after being the musical guest on Saturday Night Live.

After playing "Seven Nation Army" during Jack Black's not-so-mono-logue at the start of the show, White performed both songs from the G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs / Derecho Demonico single he just released on Third Man Records.

White is no stranger to Coachella. In 2015 he headlined, playing two very different sets on 4/11/15 and 4/18/15.

And in 2003, he and Meg White performed an unforgettable 18-song set as The White Stripes.

The 50-year-old Rock Hall member has had a solid last seven months.

On Thanksgiving he was joined by fellow Detroiter Eminem for a half time collab on national TV at Ford Field. In September he jammed with IDLES. And a week before that, he wowed them at Riot Fest.

So why is a former headliner playing not long after they open the gates on day 2? Maybe this is a genius way to get people out of their tents and hotel beds and into the show.

You may remember Coachella did this last year when Weezer on weekend one and Ed Sheeran on weekend two were last minute additions who performed at 3:10pm.

With Jack coming on at 3pm and playing for about 45 minutes, it adds to an already-diverse Saturday assortment of acts that includes Addison Rae, Royel Otis, Geese, Sombr, Nine Inch Noize, Pink Pantheress, The Strokes, Interpol, David Byrne, headlined by Justin Bieber.

After Coachella, Mr. White heads to Europe to continue the No Name Tour.
