Lily Allen’s West End Girl was an undeniable game-changer when it came out last year thanks to its raw reflections on betrayal, pain and the end of a relationship. Filled with uncensored tea about her marriage to Stranger Things actor David Harbour, it seemed destined to go viral as soon as it came out.
Still, vulnerability is what truly made the music really resonate. The deceptively simple hooks and melodies didn't hurt either. But how might West End Girl translate in a live concert setting?
Fans got their answer last Friday (4/3), when Allen’s sold out North American tour kicked off at Chicago’s The Auditorium. Widespread acclaim from both fans and critics, who were the first to see its wicked narratives play out live on stage, has followed since.
The theatrically-flaired “Lily Allen Performs West End Girl,” is being hailed as ambitious and immersive, bringing the music to life as a performance piece with a faithful track-by-track take on the 2025 synth-pop masterpiece. Fans sang along throughout the show as Allen reflected on rejection, rage and moving on, all while looking fierce in sexy yet classy vintage-flaired lingerie and designer frocks.
Much has been made of Allen’s alluring post-breakup “revenge looks” since the album came out, but this idea took on new meaning at the show during the cut, “4ChanStan” as the olive green dress she wore featured a rollout of fabric printed with handwritten lyrics and receipts referencing the track.
Coming just after the buzzy hit, “Pussy Palace,” which she performed on a bed in a lace top and hot pants, the themes of realization were hard to miss, as she shamelessly outlined how she discovered Harbour’s pricey purchases for another woman at Bergdorf Goodman.
Fashion was clearly used as a story-telling device in the one woman show. According to Page Six, Allen’s looks were styled by Mel Ottenberg, Interview magazine’s editor-in-chief. Allen’s glam had a strong retro vibe to go with her outfits —bouffant hair with bangs and mod makeup— styling that gave her more somber numbers a torch singer ambiance. She donned a sheer negligee for the the album's other stand out track, "Madeline."
Performing all 14 songs from the acclaimed album, Allen did not play her past hits, choosing to flesh out the feelings that inspired West End Girl with dramatic intent and focus.
It might have been nice for older fans to hear hits like "Smile" or "LDN" off her 2006 debut Alright, Still or even the biting "Fuck You" off her 2009 follow up It's Not Me, It's You as an encore, but the show's conceptual vision —and the closure that clearly comes with it— seems to be more than enough all on its own.

The first leg of the tour is sold out, but check her Allen's website for show updates.
