Concert Review: Liam Gallagher at the Greek Theater, Los Angeles

Liam Gallagher of Oasis fame was met with a packed theater on a rainy, Friday evening (May 11) at The Greek in Los Angeles' spacious Griffith Park. The misty weather painted a fitting mood for the Manchester-based rock star. When Liam walked on stage, he immediately went into Oasis classic "Rock 'n' Roll Star" followed by "Morning Glory," a start that was riled fans up for everything else that followed.

His solo material off debut album As You Were was met with just as many shouts and cheers as the Oasis songs, at least from where I was sitting. Liam rarely strayed from his spot on stage as he sang loudly and occasionally banged his Tamborine aggressively - his usual and iconic Oasis moves. Thanks to the two jumbo-tron's that bookend the stage, you could see Liam occasionally punishing himself when he didn't hit a note the way he wanted, another staple Oasis move. You'd rarely even notice his vocals fall flat if it weren't for the self-punishing flinches. That's classic Liam though, and it only make the set more enjoyable, in my humble opinion.

Liam Gallagher

He continued to sing the usual Oasis songs that's been included on the 'As You Were' tour, but also played "D'You Know What I Mean?" which marked the first time in 2018 he's sang it. The two-song encore had some of my favorite Oasis tracks - "Supersonic" and "Live Forever." A void in the 13-song setlist, however, was the absence of "Wonderwall." I lost my voice screaming the song name in between the encore songs, but he obviously couldn't hear me because I refuse to believe Liam Gallagher would ignore a devout fan such as myself.

Our setlist data was able to shine some light on this atrocity and as it turns out, Liam has been playing "Wonderwall" everywhere on his 'As You Were' tour... EXCEPT in the USA. So here's some advice, if you're dying to see Liam perform "Wonderwall" and live in the USA, travel out of the country.

Anyway, the show still satisfied all us brit-pop aficionados, and his backing band did a pretty bang up job, all though no one will ever play Oasis tracks quite like Noel Gallagher can, just being real.

Head to Liam's website to check out dates for the rest of his North American tour.
