Dave Matthews Band Kick Off Summer 2018 Tour in Texas

Dave Matthews Band kicked off their summer tour last Friday night in The Woodlands, Texas. The opening song on the first night of the tour was (fittingly) “Come Tomorrow,” the title track from the band’s forthcoming (June 8) studio album.

DMB made news in the past week when accusations against their former violinist Boyd Tinsley were revealed, and a representative for the band confirmed the violinist has been booted from the roster. The current touring lineup is bassist Stefan Lessard, drummer Carter Beauford, trumpeter Rashawn Ross, saxophonist Jeff Coffin, guitarist Tim Reynolds, and newly-added keyboardist Buddy Strong.

After treating fans to the new track, Dave and co. launched into “Louisiana Bayou,” a 2005 track they hadn’t performed live since the summer of 2015. The 1998 album Before These Crowded Streets got the most love from the 21-song setlist, and they played the lead single off Come Tomorrow, “Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begin)” although it was not the live debut—that happened back in February at a pre-Superbowl event.

The other songs DMB has pulled from the vault so far are #27 (last played in 2014) and “What You Are” (last performed in 2013).

The Dallas gig the following night saw the live debut of “She” and vault-resurrected track, “Steady As We Go,” (last played in 2014). Both nights it was a 21-song set, opening night encore being, “You & Me” and “Grey Street” while Saturday’s crowd got a 3-song encore of “Granny,” “Crush” and “Tripping Billies.” Check out the setlist from the first date as well as fan-shot footage of the brand new songs below.
