Muse Live Debuted New Songs at Radio 1 On This Day in 2006

English rockers Muse are the gift that keeps on giving. Since their 1994 inception, they've released eight full-length EPs, each delivering with as much experimentation and thought-provoking subject matter as the last, encouraging listeners to question societal (and musical!) norms.
Their early works (1999's Showbiz, 2001's Origin of Symmetry and 2003's Absolution) had heavy alt-rock and classical influences, but it was their fourth album, 2006's Black Holes and Revelations, that got the band international recognition with its electro pop elements. The band credited Depeche Mode, Millionaire, Lightening Bolt and Sly and the Family Stone as influences for the record.
On this day in Setlist history, May 13, 2006, Muse live debuted some of Black Holes' forthcoming material at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in anticipation of the band's accompanying tour (the record would go on to be released in July).
Muse's seven-song set on the main stage at Camperdown Park was their first live performance in almost 2 years. The band live debuted "Supermassive Black Hole," "Starlight" and "Knights of Cydonia," and played other fan-favorites "Hysteria" and "Time Is Running Out."

Muse's Black Holes and Revelations Tour went on to be the band's longest lasting tour, with a total of 195 shows running two years (2006-2008). Their back-to-back shows at the new Wembley Stadium were the first sold-out performances in the new arena.
