Dave Matthews Band Kick Off Summer 2022 Tour in Austin

Dave Matthews Band kicked off their 2022 Summer Tour last night (May 11) in Austin, Texas. The band took the stage at The Moody Center at 7:45pm and played through a 23-song setlist. The last time DMB played Austin was May 22, 2018 - see that setlist here.

Opening night kicked off with "Warehouse," DMB's 5th most-performed song to date, followed by "Don't Drink the Water" and "You & Me." Four songs in, they worked in a newer track, the unreleased "Madman's Eyes" which was live debuted last November.

Setlist highlights were the first full band performances of three particular songs that hadn't been part of the show in years. First up was "Break For It," appearing for the first time since the 2010 summer tour, and only the 8th time ever. Check out some fan footage:

Next was the first full band performance of "Shotgun" since a 2016 show in Wichita, Kansas. This show marked its 50th live performance to date since its live debut on DMB's summer 2006 tour. See it resurrected:

The third rarity was "Break Free" - another song last performed by the full band in 2018, but only 32 times to date. Take a look:

They closed the main set with "Why I Am" and before the two-song encore, Matthews told a story of playing “Sister” for his twin daughters in the car when they little kids and he looked back at them and they were holding hands. He went on to note that as his daughters grow up he “hopes they have control over their bodies” and get to make decisions themselves in what was seemingly a reference to the fight for abortion rights. (Per JamBase). "Ants Marching" was the closer. See the full setlist below.
