Photos + Review: Dave Matthews Band in Cincinnati

The Dave Matthews Band (DMB) jammed at Cincinnati’s 20,000 capacity amphitheater, the Riverbend Music Center, on Saturday (5/27/23) to a fired-up crowd that hadn’t seen DMB since 2021. This was the band’s sixth stop of their 41-show US tour which began May 19, the day their 10th album “Walk Around The Moon” was released. The tour will conclude with the band’s traditional, three-day Labor Day weekend celebration at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington State.
One thing Dave Matthews Band die-hard fans love is that no two shows are the same; many fans travel to multiple shows and ten cities are blessed with back-to-back performances. DMB shows will feature a mixture of deep-cuts, jams, fan favorites, radio hits and humorous banter from Dave.

The Cincinnati show opened with "Bismarck," a rarity they’ve played sporadically since 2016. It was followed by the title track to the new album “Walk Around The Moon”. Typically six songs of the 20-plus setlist have been from the new album. Each show will feature a rousing cover song, such as The Commodores’ “Brick House” played in Cincinnati. This show also included an extensive jam during “Crush” and concluded with fan favorite “Warehouse”. Expect two songs in DMB’s encore, one new, one old and sometimes three songs if 40 second-long Pantala Naga Pampa segues into Rapunzel as it did in Cincinnati. With the DMB’s extensive repertoire they need no openers and their shows lasts over 2 1/2 hours.
