Avenged Sevenfold Brings Back The Classics in Jakarta

Avenged Sevenfold continued the Life Is But a Dream...world tour last Saturday in Jakarta, debuting a stacked setlist that appeased old and new fans alike. Longtime members of "Deathbat Nation" got up on their feet as the band re-emerged four old favorites, along with setlist staples and modern essentials from their new album.

Life Is But A Dream..., the eighth Avenged Sevenfold album and first in seven years, is about to celebrate its one-year anniversary. And the SoCal metal band is far from finished celebrating these new songs. The Jakarta crowd was treated to present-day singles like "Mattel," "Game Over," and "Nobody," which riled them up with the band's signature heavy riffs and M. Shadow's growling vocals.

But of course, the night wouldn't be complete without some classic Avenged Sevenfold songs thrown in for good measure. They played many of the 2000s favorites, like "Afterlife," "Hail to the King," "Bat Country" and "Nightmare," and that's not even the best part. M. Shadows and Co. also caused the best kind of chaos with a handful of hits that they haven't played in years! It started with "Almost Easy," a fist-pumping anthem that they haven't performed at an Avenged Sevenfold concert since 2017.

Next, they decided to slow things down with "Seize the Day," a favorite off their 2005 album, City of Evil, that had many audience members holding up their cell phone lighters. After an emotional mini-break, at least for a metalhead, they proceeded with setlist staples like "The Stage" and "So Far Away" before re-debuting more tracks they (and fans) have missed dearly. It's been nearly a decade since we'd heard "Gunslinger" before it was played in Jakarta, while "Dear God" shocked fans in the encore after a 15-year hiatus.

Speaking of the encore, there was something for everybody in this three-song farewell. "Cosmic" was an out-of-this-world adventure that Jakarta fans can't stop talking about. And finally, the metal band bid farewell with one of their most fun, unpredictable, and macabre tracks, "A Little Piece of Heaven." Ironically enough, that's exactly where fans felt like they'd been for the past couple of hours with their favorite band.
